trouble booting the system with I2O hardware RAID
I've just made (yet another) CentOS 4 installation. The install process
seems to go fine, however the machine doesn't wan't to boot.
The system in question has one of I2O Adaptec RAID controllers. I've
configured LVM with one volume group and several volumes. If I boot
into the rescue mode, all looks fine and dandy. Anaconda finds the
installation, and I can access all volumes.
However, when doing "real" boot, it gets into trouble. All required...

Centos kernel does not boot, redhat does (i2o raid controller problem)
...ages and the new centos
kernel was installed the via yum.
This kernel does not boot.
Error messages:
i20:iop0: Get status timeout
i20:iop0: Reset timeout
i20:iop0: could not reset controller
i20:iop0: Reset timeout
kernel panic
Here are my findings when setting emulation in scsi adapter bios to i2o:
- initial redhat el5 install fails, no adapter found (mayby centos
install is affected, too, have to set to 'mass storage' to install)
- redhat's kernel-2.6.18-8.1.1.el5 and kernel-2.6.18-8.1.3.el5 boot with
i20 enabled
- centos latest 2.6.18-8.1.3.el5 does not! error messages above...

problems with i2o on XEN kernel when using high memory support in kernel
...d to extend RAM up to 6GB.
in the same .config which I previously used to prepare the dom0 kernel I''ve
changed High Memory Support from 4GB to 64GB and compiled it again.
I''ve also recompiled xen-3.2.0 with pae flag.
After rebooting, system crashed when udev was trying to load i2o_core module.
So I''ve added the i2o_core to the blacklist and the system wake up but
unfortunately no /dev/sda* files were present.
I have Adaptec RAID controler with two harddrives but the / is on ATA (not
RAID) disk.
Any help will be appreciated,
Bets regards

Hardware RAID 10 server - reformat NTFS partition to ext3 and resize for Centos 5.5
Here's the situation. I have a dual boot machine - originally had Red
Hat and Windows 2000 Pro. The NTFS partition never did seem to 'get
along' with the Adaptec 2400A caching RAID controller. Linux always
seemed to like the I2O drivers. I went from RH Enterprise to now running
Centos 5.5. Works great! I really don't want the 200 gigs worth of NTFS.
Can't I just run GParted from a CD, reformat the NTFS and append the
space to the existing Linux partition? What will I have to do with LVM
to see the expanded part...

Dahdi > CAPI migration
Hello Folks,
I looking to migrate a pbx from one server to another. The original server has this ISDN card:
?
00:00.0 ISDN controller: Cologne Chip Designs GmbH ISDN network Controller [HFC-4S] (rev 01)
?
The new server:
00:00.0 I2O: Digital Equipment Corporation StrongARM DC21285 (rev 04) << AVM ISDN Controller C4
Now I'm not fully aware of both's cards functions since the manuals are very brief. What I heard is that the later card does not support some NT commands what I might going to need at this migration....

module kernel for adaptec 2110s in CenOS 4.2
Hi.
I''ve used ghost for change the ide disk for an array of scsi in raid using
an adaptec controller 2110s.
Now when I boot it didn''t boot correctly. Looking for in Internet
(http://kbase.redhat.com/faq/FAQ_46_4969.shtm) I guest that I have to
rebuild the initial ramdisk to contain the proper kernel modules for the
adaptec controller. But what is the kernel module for

AMD 64 - I20/ I20_blocks
I'm trying to install either 32-bit or 64 bit centos 4.3 and I keep
getting an error:
"No valid devices were found on which to install filesystems".
In checking BIOS and RAID, everything seems fine, but I just found some
research about I20.
An alternative would be the i2o_blocks module.
How can I install CentOS 4.3 x86_64 using i2o_blocks? How do I instruct
the boot prompt to find this driver and get me past the above error?
Even in 32-bit I still get this error as well.

Hi all,
I've got a server that I'm rebuilding and I've been given an Adaptec
2100S single channel scsi card to use. Problem is I can't find drivers
for CentOS 4 anywhere.
So far I've tried the adaptec drivers on the install CD but when it
comes time to use disc druid it doesn't see the array that I've setup.

Module loading order during install
Is there a way in a kickstart install to affect the order in which modules
get loaded? I want to load 3w-xxxx before 3w-9xxx so that my OS mirror
drives take their proper place as sda and sdb, but centos-4 wants to load
3x-9xxx first, making my (unbootable) big arrays the first two drives. In
this configuration, it seems that even trying to install grub to /dev/sdc
fails. Ideas? Thanks.

Motherboards
Does anyone have any experience with Super-Micro brand motherboards //
dual Xeon cpu's? Had to swap out my Tyan piece of junk and going back
with the S-M board. I believe it has similar north/southbridge chips on
it -- at least they are the intel MCH ICH5R and PXH plus the 82546GB.
One area that the Tyan board was seriously lacking in was in the
hardware monitoring department. The S-M

or Nvidia's nForce Pro chipset in general.
I'm looking to build a new server using this board but would like to
find some other experiences first. I've googled myself blue but haven't
found any reviews or postings regarding this

Hardware Raid cards RAID 0 / 1
Last week we tried to install Centos on a brand new HP ML150 G2 with
AIC-8130/ Marvell SATA Raid card and it was a no go. We tried a few other
flavors of Linux as a test and all had trouble as well. Unfortunately time
didn't permit so we opted for a Windows solution to get the box into
production.
We have never had a problem with IDE and Embedded SATA (Non Raid)

CentOS on Compaq Proliant Rackmount Servers
Greetings,
Can anyone relate experience(s) installing CentOS on Compaq rack mount
servers units please?
Easy no problem, easy some issues, or ghastly do not do it under any
circumstances... ;)
Basically, I'm looking at some used/refurb dual PIII units and will run RAID
on Compaq built in SCSI or is it easy to pop in some 3ware SATA in them?
Let me know in terms of CentOS 3 and/or 4 please.

Help! - Unintelligible prompts and music
I have set up a couple of test Asterisk servers and have never had a problem

I've just done a fresh install on a dual 1GHZ PIII Asus box running Fedora
