HYPERVISOR_iret
Hello, In HYPERVISOR_iret, does control come back to the operating system or is it given directly to the destination(eg.user space)? Please help Furquan _______________________________________________ Xen-devel mailing list Xen-devel@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-devel

Using SYSCALL/SYSRET with a minios kernel
Hi, I''m trying to use the SYSCALL/SYSRET opcodes with a minios kernel without much success. Going by the manuals (and linux sources) I first have to setup the STAR and LSTAR registers to define the segment and instruction pointer to be used for SYSCALL: /* * LSTAR and STAR live in a bit strange symbiosis. * They both write to the same internal register. STAR allows

Switching to user mode from domU kernel
I''m having trouble switching into user mode with my domU kernel -- everytime I call __HYPERVISOR_iret, the hypervisor calls into my kernel via the registered callback handler. None of the bits in the event channel pending arrays are set. If I return via the iret call, the hypervisor immediately calls back into the handler. The user RIP never changes, so it is clearly not making forward progress....

Xen package security updates for jessie 4.4, XSA-213, XSA-214
...56a567 +Subject: multicall: deal with early exit conditions + +In particular changes to guest privilege level require the multicall +sequence to be aborted, as hypercalls are permitted from kernel mode +only. While likely not very useful in a multicall, also properly handle +the return value in the HYPERVISOR_iret case (which should be the guest +specified value). + +This is XSA-213. + +Reported-by: Jann Horn <jannh at google.com> +Signed-off-by: Jan Beulich <jbeulich at suse.com> +Reviewed-by: Andrew Cooper <andrew.cooper3 at citrix.com> +Acked-by: Julien Grall <julien.grall at arm.com&...

[PATCH 0 of 4] Minios improvements for app development
This patch series contains a set of patches making minios rather easier to use, from an application development point of view. Overview of patches: 1 Command line argument parsing support, from Xen. 2 Weak console handler function. 3 Build system tweaks for application directories. 4 Trailing whitespace cleanup. (because it is very messy) Patch 4 is likely to be more controversial than

[RFC PATCH 00/35] Xen i386 paravirtualization support
Unlike full virtualization in which the virtual machine provides the same platform interface as running natively on the hardware, paravirtualization requires modification to the guest operating system to work with the platform interface provided by the hypervisor. Xen was designed with performance in mind. Calls to the hypervisor are minimized, batched if necessary, and non-critical codepaths
