Hyperthreading?
Are they any issues still with hyperthreading processors, I've read and been told by a few people to make sure its disabled in bios if I want to use * on a hyperthreading machine. Kind Regards, Chris Bond

rails hyperthreading on Quad core
...eloped with rails, runs on lighttpd/fcgi (I know it is obsolete by now) and is severely under load and regularly blocks because the lighttpd process chews up 50% of RAM (1GB). So now I want to move the system to a new server with 8GB, 64bit , Quad core processor (intel i7 920) but I am not sure if hyperthreading will really do anything better. Even if I switched to mongrel, would it be able to leverage the Quadcore architecture? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Kuros -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Hyperthreading ON causes OOPS on boot
...dn't boot, I tried the 32bit version, same result) on a dual Naconda Xeon system. I get an OOPS just after the IDE info is printed on the screen during boot (this is booting off the CD during the install phase). After mucking about with the bios settings (and many reboots later), I found with Hyperthreading off it boots and installs ok (installed the x86_64 version once I got it going). After YUM updating, and getting a new kernel I thought I'd try turning the Hyperthreading back on, crashed in the same spot during boot. Since I'm going to use it as a MySQL server and Hyperthreading seems to...

hyperthreading and zaptel
My Dell 2800 Dual 64bit Proc. machine came in with hyperthreading enabled. (they call it virtual processor??) I have been intending for a month to disable it. Tonight, I rebooted, turned it off, and let the system come up. zaptel loaded and asterisk loaded, but both of my t1s were red. (it is a TE411P) /proc/interrupts looked OK, zttest gave OK numbers. I doub...

2.4 Kernel and Hyperthreading (was Re: P4 processor

Supermicro Motherboards (most Phoneix based) have this option Also, would we see same pops and clicks in a dual CPU box (Zeon) then ? SW Message: 1 Date: Wed, 07 Jan 200...

Problems with hyperthreading in Windows HVM
Hi, I have been trying to get Hyperthreading to work in a Windows HVM on Xen 4.1.2 as described in ''xmexample.hvm''. I think I have set it up correctly, but I can''t seem to get it to work. There is not much documentation on it and most topics are from years ago. I''m curious to know to whether this functional...

Please advise: Asterisk on Dell PowerEdge 1750 w/ hyperthreading
I've to setup Asterisk on a Dell PowerEdge 1750 server. Its dual Xeon 3GHz with Hyperthreading. People on this list who have experience with this server please advise me how is the performance of Asterisk on this server, what flavour of linux is good on it etc. Is Hyperthreading going to be a problem or not. I once read somewhere that hyperthreading caused some voice quality problems in Aste...

domU machines hang when Hyperthreading enabled in BIOS
Hi, I can''t get rid of an annoying domU machines hanging issue with Hyperthreading enabled in my BIOS. P4 processor with Hyperthreading and Asterisk
Hello, I read an interesting article on 2cpu.com that talks about the performance differences between a P4 processor with Hyperthreading(HT) enabled and disabled. http://www.2cpu.com/articles/ht_explored/index.html The bottom line of the article is that processor intensive applications greatly benefit from HT being enabled, but memory intensive applications can actually see a slight decrease in performance if HT is enabled. I have...

Do extra CPU's help?
Hi all, We have Xeon-based system with only 1 (hyperthreaded) CPU (in a HP DL360). We are seeing high load on multiple meetme session as well as g729 transcoding. My question is will putting an extra CPU help or does Asterisk just run on a single CPU. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

Hyperthreading
Hi, All: Does the guest OS need to detect hyperthreading? One would think that the hypervisor decides what to schedule on what CPU, and the job of the guest is not to be too smart for its own good. So, my first reaction was to comment detect_ht() altogether. Fedora Core 5 has the code in detect_ht(), though I have no idea what the results of this are on...

Xen 3.0 and Hyperthreading an issue?
...so I''m not complaining :-) Once the 4 user domains starts the machine will suddenly reboot. I added a sleep inbetween individual domain startups in xendomains and was able to get it to start up without rebooting, but then after about 5 or so minutes the machine rebooted again. I turned hyperthreading off on the machine and it seems to be able to boot with all 4 user domains just fine without the need for sleeps inbetween (very consistently dies if HT is enabled and I don''t sleep a little while between domain starts). So I''m leaving HT off for now to see if it remains stable w...

3.0.2 + Hyperthreading ?
Hi, I have two boxes with 2 * Xeon 3.0 Ghz I''ve enabled Hyperthreading in the BIOS. - One box is with Xen 3.0.1 I''ve enabled SMP + SMT in my kernel Xen0 config, and SMP + SMT works perfectly. I can see 4 cpus in my VCPU list for Domain0, and I see also 4 CPUs in the /proc/cpuinfo file. - One box is with Xen 3.0.2 I''ve enabled SMP in my kernel Xen0...

Best CPU config for dual-Xeon?
I have some beefy dual-Xeon servers that I will be using for Asterisk VoIP applications (i.e. no Zaptel cards). Using 2.6.11-1.14_FC3smp as the kernel (Fedora Core 3), and currently with Asterisk STABLE. My question is concerning the CPU setup, as I've seen conflicting or out-of-date suggestions: given the above config, should I have hyper-threading turned on or off? Turned on appears like 4

Xen credit scheduler question
...ect? Put simply, is there a way to constrain a VM with 1 vCPU to consume no more than 0.5 of a physical core (hyper-threaded) on the server hardware mentioned below? Does the cap help in that respect? I have been struggling to understand how the scheduler can deal with the uncertainty that hyperthreading introduces, however. I know this is an issue that you are tackling in the credit2 scheduler, but I would like to know what your thoughts are on this problem (if you are able to share). Any insight or assistance you could offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much and best regards,...

Hyperthreaded CPU and SMP kernel
Hi gang! I'm using Centos 4.4 at work on a HP Proliant DL320 G2, which has a Hypterthreaded Pentium IV CPU. I used to use RHEL WS 2.1 on it, and RH installed and used the SMP kernel. Centos 4.4 did NOT install the SMP kernel. Is there some reason why I should NOT install it myself? I.e., some reason why an SMP kernel shouldn't be used on such a machine? Gracias! -- ---- Fred Smith --
