is it possible to login to a switch via RS232 / serial port from the shell?
Hi all I have a problem switch in our data centre, which is connected to a linux server via a serial cable. I know I can / could access the switch from my Windows PC back at the office, using hyperterm, but trying to access it using minicom just doesn't seem to work. I have changed the comms in minincom to use /dev/tty0 & the baud rate to 9600, yet I can't seem to connect with minicom. Does anyone know how to connect to a serial device from the console? -- Kind Regards Rudi Ahl...

Serial port under Wine
...cat /etc/group | grep hm | grep dialout dialout:x:20:hm hm at m-art:~$ ls -all ./.wine/dosdevices/ | grep tty lrwxrwxrwx 1 hm hm 10 2009-03-21 20:20 com1 -> /dev/ttyS0 ------------------------------------------------------- I don't see com1 device in Wine configuration tool, and windOFFs hyperterm don't show com1 device in list of 'connect using' combo box list. Thanks!

USB and serial
...: the app does not see the data. Even the nice little feature in its configurator which shows the raw input on any of the com ports is completely silent. What could I possibly be missing? Is there any way to troubleshoot those com ports from inside Wine (perhaps by listening to them with, I dunno, Hyperterm or something)? Am I mistaken in the whole concept of linking a USB device to a com port? Any and all suggestions would be highly appreciated; I've lost many, many hours to beating my head against this particular brick wall. -- * Ben Okopnik * Editor-in-Chief, Linux Gazette * http://LinuxGaze...

usb to usb comm ports - possible? how?
..., to this server via telnet or ssh over a direct connection. Is there a way to connect / configure a comm port to a raw USB port in windows / centos and to use a direct cable connection between the two? Or, is a usb to serial converter device required at both ends? I expect to use either puTTY or hyperterm as the windows client. What I need to know is: Is this is even possible? How do you configure the tty ports on CentOS for this to work? How do you configure the comm port on MS-WinXPpro? What cable does one require? I have never had this problem before since all our hosts have previously come...

Inquiry:External USB modem and Remote PC Access?
Dear All Please be informed that I checked for the presence of internal modem on my CentOS server , as the followings : #dmesg |grep -i modem #lspci |grep -i modem #lshw |grep -i modem According to the output , it seems that my CentOS client does not contain internal modem . program fails to enumerate COM ports
Hi. LG PC Sync can work with ~/.wine/dosdevices/com1 but fails to enumerate com ports. I cannot select port other than COM1 and the combo box that would allow me to do that is blank. I did: # ln -s /dev/ttyACM0 ~/.wine/dosdevices/com5 # sudo chmod g+rw,o+rw /dev/ttyACM0 and added to registry: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Hardware\DEVICEMAP\SERIALCOMM] "COM5"="COM5" env

Smart-UPS RT 3000 Baud Rate
I have been running a Smart-UPS RT 3000 VA using nut successfully over the 940-0095B cable for a couple of years. I have just received a second unit, but it is slightly different in 3 ways that I have found so far. 1. It's a Smart-UPS RT 3000 XL 2. The 940-0095B cable now uses an RJ45 connector at the UPS end. 3. It now requires a baud rate of 9600 instead of the 2400 used previously.

Does XEN support crash carts?
...h cart’s monitor/keyboard/mouse is attached to the video/USB/etc. ports (on the back of the physical box running XEN)? For the network down (out-of-band) emergencies, is there a way to switch amongst domain and/or guest VM consoles once a crash cart ‘terminal’ (i.e. terminal emulator, hyperterm, etc.) is attached to the (primary) serial port on the back (of a physical box running XEN)? I see that any given VM can be configured to map the VM console to the physical serial port I/O – but that would only work for one of the VMs at a time … right? Thanks, Jadean __________...
