This is sort of working -- but I can't get it to do a 4k output. Not sure how the monitor resolution is detected - This monitor is supposed to do 3480x1200 60hz 4:4:4 But the info I get from hwinfo is different. How does nouveau get this information? If it is from an ID - with a list - the list is probably is wrong. # hwinfo --monitor 95: None 00.1: 10002 LCD Monitor [Created at monitor.97] Unique ID: jyhG.h9Zsh40fFW2 Hardware Class: monitor Model: "SONY TV *00"...

...d to this before, but let me be clear -- there is no global database that contains monitor-specific information which is used by any linux drivers. Please forget any notions you had of such a thing existing or being used. The information comes from the EDID blob supplied by the monitor. Presumably hwinfo has a primitive EDID parser, which is where that information comes from. A more complete EDID parser is available at https://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/app/edid-decode/ For example, $ ./src/edid-decode/edid-decode /sys/class/drm/card0-DVI-D-1/edid Prints the full EDID information for the monitor...

Yum uses too much resources
Hi all, When I do a simple string search with Yum (ex. yum search *hwinfo*) my laptop suffers high slowness. If I open another shell-tab and execute top command, it shows me an extensive use of hardware resources from Yum (20-25% RAM and 70-85% CPU). If in the same time I'm using Firefox browser the performance goes down too much and even it seems the box it'...

...mpare it to if we had problems. I'm looking to do something similar for my CentOS boxes. Or better yet, see if someone has already done something similar. I've poked around google and sourceforge on and off for a couple of months but haven't found much. The discussion lately about 'hwinfo' jogged my memory. Anyone know of something like this? A template, even? An old project that hasn't been updated but could be brought up to date? Thanks for any suggestions. Dave

System hang on Alienware 13 with NVIDIA GP106M
I do not know how to debug this situation. Nothing appears in /var/log/messages. I miss the serial port:-( I executed a journalctl -r, and saw an error: kernel: nouveau 00001:01:00.0; Refused to change power state, currently in D3 The last message before reboot was: kernel: watchdog: Bug: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 22s! ISDN problem: lacking dialtone
Hi all, this is a rather "newbie-oriented" question, so please bear with me... The system running Asterisk has been provided with an AVM FRITZ!Card PnP. SuSE Linux 9.0 recognizes it right after booting the system and it seems to be configured (MSN) correctly... The hwinfo looks like this: --- pbx:/etc/asterisk # hwinfo --isapnp 11: ISA(PnP) 01.0: 10300 ISDN Adapter [Created at isapnp.193] Unique ID: QQNm.4JPVYg4a1y4 Hardware Class: isdn adapter Model: "AVM FRITZ!Card PnP" Vendor: AVM "AVM" Device: eisa 0x0900 "AVM ISDN-Controller...

[Bug 30213] New: ION2 (NV50) locks up with infinite loop
...desktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=38722) Xorg.0.log Under normal operation, the display locks up. The keyboard becomes nonresponsive, but the mouse (and cursor movement) still works. The display stays coherent but is just frozen in time. Attached are both the kernel log and Xorg.0.log, as well as the hwinfo (openSUSE tool) that describes the hardware in detail. The kernel log changes and I've seen this hang appear without any entry in the kernel log. On my system, this issue is reproduced trivially by playing video with totem. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/userprefs.cgi?tab...

System hang on Alienware 13 with NVIDIA GP106M
Alienware 17 r5 also with same graphics (GP106M and Intel 3e9b) does boot from same disk. I look in hwinfo --gfxcard and it says both the Intel (on i915) and the Nvidia (nouveau) are both present. What command tells me which driver is being used? Thanks. Don
