local APIC error 0x40
...t week for five days, came home, did a csup to RELENG_8 and rebuilt the world, as usual, and now the fans are always running full! If I comment out hint.apic.0.disabled="1" from /boot/loader.conf and reboot, the results are a mixed bag: 1) I get my 2nd core back, and it no longer hangs! Hurray. 2) The fans go back to usually being off and silent. Hurray! 3) I get zillions of error messages streaming saying: CPU0: local APIC error 0x40 CPU1: local APIC error 0x40 No good! I am sitting at a prompt, no X-Windows, no apps running (other than the usual demons), and every few seconds...

Does anyone provide inbound UK numbers using IAX ?
...raphic numbers that can be terminated on Asterisk using IAX ? It must be a geographic number (eg. Start 01 or 02, not 08xx). I've tried the sipcall.co.uk service and it looks very good when using X-Lite but it will not work with Asterisk. Switching to IAX should also resolve issues around NAT - hurray! -Nathan

mac wine gamepad issues
I finally found a way to run epsxe on mac os without virtualization! Hurray! For that I would like to thank the Wine development team. Now onto my question. I cannot get epsxe to recognize my gamepad, yet it will let me assign keys on the keyboard. Any ideas?

Packages on R 3.0.0
Hello all, I see that R 3.0.0 is announced (hurray!), and have a question regarding this line in the NEWS file: "Packages need to be (re-)installed under this version (3.0.0) of R." Assuming I copy my packages to the new library folder and run "update.packages" will it be enough? Or is there anything more to do? for example -...

Building package on Linux and Windows
Hi OK, final stretch now, thank you to everyone who has helped! (hopefully) final question - what does R CMD build actually do that tar/gzip and WinZip do not? I have successfully used R CMD build to create a .tar.gz version of my package, which installs well and works under Linux - hurray! I naively thought that all I had to do now was create a .zip version (using something like WinZip) and it would work on Windows too - wrong! On Windows I get: Error in file(file, "r") : unable to open connection In addition: Warning messages: 1: error -1 in extracting from zip file...

FYI: SSH1 now disabled at compile-time by default
...actice with OpenSSH for many years -- if not from the beginning. Certainly, those outside of the OpenSSH development community often assume the major/minor release scheme used by the majority of open source projects, but I'm suprised to see such confusion on this list. As to disabling SSH v1, hurray! The protocol has been long-obsolete and it is well-known to be insecure. Sure, some will eventually be impacted by this, but maybe that is a good thing. Perhaps it will give a little more incentive for those who are still using SSH1 to move into this century. -- Iain Morgan

[LLVMdev] FW: Help understanding r127440
...nyXML for ARM with LLVM 2.8. The bug seems to originate in DAGCombiner. LLVM 2.9 still has this bug, but top of trunk does not. To narrow down what change fixed it, I've used a binary search of revisions from 2.9 to top of trunk. The bytecode compiles once I back ported r127440 to LLVM 2.8. Hurray! But I don't understand why it fixes my bug. I'd love to know more. Especially, I'd like to produce a C/C++ snippet which repros the problem on a small scale. Your revision description indicates "Avoid replacing the value of a directly stored load with the stored value if...

JUST A COUPLE OF NUBBY QUESTIONS BETWEEN ME AND FREEDOM
1. What does ~ mean? cd ie. "~/.wine/drive_c/" 2. Steam runs. Hurray. But I can't chat with friends. I can see their messages, but not mine. I assume they never get them because they never say anything more. 3. I launch TF2, I get the valve logo, source logo, then BAM back to desktop. No error boxes. And my screen resolution stays "minimized" to...

I found the problem, and it lies with icecast. If I set sleep_ratio to 0, I get no problems with icecast reading data from the socket. I spent a while working out that after a certain length of time, ices started falling over when the thread reading the socket in icecast wasn't waking up in ti...

Position independent code writes absolute pointer

The magic value is 120 0x00000237A5DE0038 && 0x00000270BB090038 The values will be read correctly! Hurray! But my problem is, that the pointer 'pValue' was written with an absolute value and not with a PIC conform value. The second process will now print the address from the first process. I hoped, that - since the code is PIC - that also the pointers are written PIC like. I think I understand...

Confusion on lpxelinux vs. gpxelinux vs. ipxe vs gpxe.
...be given a trailing slash (ouch): HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found The requested URL /tftpboot/dscoular/syslinuxldlinux.c32 was not found on this server. Adding the trailing slash solved our issues and we were able to load the remote lpxelinux.0 and have it use our remote .../syslinux/pxelinux.cfg. Hurray! However, I'm left feeling a bit confused about all the Network Boot Programs mentioned in the syslinux documentation. I'd like to try and summarise my understanding here and have someone in the know correct any mistaken impressions I have (no doubt quite a few). So for syslinux 6.03 we h...

blazer_usb MEC0002 problem Fry's Electronics (Turbo-X) [HID PDC?]
...2.1.x 08. linux-upsilon is uspilon 3.0 - ok let's go with that 09. Setup usbmon 10. configure upsilon to use usb instead /dev/ttyS1. Not trivial. No documentation, I had to use ltrace to see that it strcmp the device name from the config file with "hid". So "hid" is the USB hurray 11. Collect the usbmon log. Please find it attached. Keep in mind that I broke the circuit with a power switch so the UPS at some point went on battery. Then I turned it back on. The $upsilon status command showed a text screen with most of the info unavailable. So I can't tell if it is really...
