Hungry channel
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi,
I'm having problems with hungry h323 channels. I think I've seen a question
about this problem on this list before, but I couldn't seem to find it again.
The problem is that the first 2-3 seconds of audio after Answer from Asterisk
to an h323 phone disappears in thin air. The easy (but ugly) way to solve
this is to ad...

RAqua too hungry of cpu time
It seems that RAqua consumes too much cpu time when doing nothing.
I can't see exactly why this is happening. We have few days to fix this
up. Any idea (after having look at the code) would be fine.

How to prevent log files from eating my hard drive?
Hello there,
Somehow, Asterisk log files are consuming all the space that I have in
my hard disk... They've already eaten 14GB and are still hungry!! What
shall I do? I'm not even logging anything in verbose mode!!
Help really appreciated!!
Best,

incomplete window contents when unminimizing
...tially
or completely) until an unminimize animation is completed. That is,
sometimes there are empty (transparent) rectangles within the window
(maybe corresponding to some Mozilla controls), and sometimes the
whole window is empty (only the decoration is visible). This is more
of an issue with cpu-hungry effects (well, most of them if you are
using Xgl + fglrx).
To avoid this, I want to wait until the window contents are *fully*
available before I start any unminimize animations. My question is how
can I know the right time? Is there a certain place in core that I can
maybe throw a notification ev...

Thrashing?
Does R do its own swapping out to disk? I disabled Linux swapping and
the system still gets stuck in Purgatory where there's little CPU
activity but the disk goes like crazy. That's with R having almost the
whole machine to itself and running a memory hungry compute only function.
I've seen this behavior with other version numbers but I'm running R
2.0.0 under Fedora Core 3. The system is a laptop with 1 Gig. RAM.
Thanks!

CentOS 7, memory hungry (2.5GB) without user and heavy services running
Hello,
The last weekend, the VM with CentOS 7
(kernel-3.10.0-327.28.2.el7.x86_64) was running with 2.5GB of used memory,
but without users connected, and heavy services running. Three minutes
after reboot, the o.s. is running with 114MB used. ?Why the 62% of memory
is used if the o.s. does not have an intensive load?

recommended memory for zfs
Hello zfs question about memory.
I heard zfs is very ram hungry.
Service looking to run:
- nginx
- postgres
- php-fpm
- python
I have a machine with two quad core cpus but only 4 G Memory
I'm looking to buy more ram now.
What would be the recommend amount of memory for zfs across 6 drives on
this setup?
Also can 9.1 now boot to zfs from the installer?...

Conversation interrupted by fax
...e to call home.
My wife said "it wasn't me, and there was a horrible fax sound on the
line and I couldn't make any calls".
Now, what is really interesting is the micro second before the call
dropped, I heard my youngest child start to screech - dinner was being
served, he was hungry ;)
What I am surmising is that the fax detection is still running on a
connected call, and decided that the child's screech was a fax machine
and jumped into receiving a fax .
Is this possible ? I do have fax detection on (zapata.conf). Is there
anyway of turning fax detection off if the c...

+ Updated graphics drivers
--8<-----------------------------------------
I see that the folks from Red Hat decided to completely ignore Firefox
2.0: an eloquent detail.
Now it's more than once that I've read good things about Firefox 3. Much
less RAM-hungry than it's predecessors, excellent standards compliance,
much more stable. What's the best way to get Firefox 3 on my CentOS 5.1?
Is there some RPM for RHEL somewhere? Some SRPM? Or simply wait
patiently for CentOS 5.2?
Aside: I use XFCE, not GNOME, so I don't have to go through the...

kvm: vm root fs becomes ro
...cate an answer to the problem.
We've got a few servers that primarily house VMs using KVM. They've
got E-3 cpus and 32 GB RAM, and they run stock CentOS 6.4, fully
patched (not yet migrated to 6.5). The VM disk images are housed on an
NFS server. None of the VMs is particularly resource-hungry. They run
a variety of Linux distros: CentOS 5/6, Debian 6/7.
I'll start to see the VMs fail to write files to their local
filesytems. No machine in the chain has rebooted or been updated in
any significant way, but the root filesystem is off-limits. (This will
happen on just one of our se...

CentOS 3 vs. CentOS 4 Memory Utilization
...8 178280

The box does not even have X installed... it's basically a web
application and email server. They would like to upgrade to CentOS 4,
but are concerned that it could be considerably more "memory hungry"
and lead to memory starvation (they don't want to add more RAM to the
box at this time, although that could be an option down the road).
I ran some tests under VMWare with fresh installations of CentOS 3 and
CentOS 4 (both using a "minimal install", the same as the server in
qu...

counting occurences of words in the result set
Hello, I need to be able to count the occurences of certain terms in the
reults.
Currently my setup is Ferret 0.10.1 aaf bleeding edge.
results = VoObject.find_by_contents(query,:offset=>page, :limit=>
20,:sort => sort_fields)
I use results.total_hits for pagination. This all works really nicely.
However i need to be able to know how many occurences of certain
predefined terms occur

grep in filename
...ame?
For example:
x <- "myfile.txt"
y <- grep.file("my text", x)
should return in y the lines with my text.
I know that
x <- "myfile.txt"
y <- grep("my text", readLines(x))
will probably work, but maybe there's a more direct (and
less memory hungry) option.

read only media
Hi guys,
Is there any way to mount an ext3 fs that is on ro media?
I get an error:
EXT3-fs: INFO: recovery required on readonly filesystem.
EXT3-fs: write access unavailable, cannot proceed.
Specifically this is with an LVM snapshot.

performance and interrupts
...em so I came
across this page,
http://kb.fusionio.com/KB/a65/irqbalance-avoid-overloading-cpu-0-with-interrupt-requests.aspx
Now, lets say I disable irqbalance which will stop my autobalance and
I pin all of my interrupts to core 0 and pin eth0 and eth1 to core 1.
My application is network and CPU hungry. I am planning to dedicate
cpu 3 to 8 for the application using taskset. Is there any draw back
to this?
