Offtopic: Which SAS / SATA HBA do you recommend?
Hi all,
Sorry for the offtopic question. I hope though that others on this list
or reading the archive find the answers useful too.
It seems the Adaptec 1405 4port SAS HBA I bought only works with RHEL
and SuSE through a closed source driver, and thus is quite useless :-(
I was stupid enought to think "Works with RHEL and SuSE" meant "Certified

flush-btrfs-1 hangs when building openwrt
Hi,
Since update to 2.6.37 I can''t build openwrt on my btrfs buildroot anymore.
I''m not sure if this is related to the other flush-btrfs-1 thread.
plenty of diskspace is free:
/dev/mapper/cruor-build
97G 68G 27G 73% /opt/build
It always hangs when openwrt builds the ext4 image and runs tune2fs on it.

Cucumber "standard base" setup?
I''m trying to set up cucumber so we can try it in some Ruby automation
scripts I''m working on. These will be straight Ruby, for use in BBEdit
and TextMate (on the Mac).
NOT Rails.
The big early-stage stumbling block I''m having is setting up the
initial Rakefile and directory structure. I think I''m rtfm''ing, but
clearly I''m missing

really dumb question | loop counters in
Basically new to [R] - as a programming environment at least (had lots
of recent experience compiling it on our Opteron-based servers). Was
trying to write some simple little scripts (in advance of porting over
some bigger things from other environments - like MATLAB), when I
realized that handling counters in loop constructs in [R] is not
patently obvious (at least, IMO, compared to other

Seriously, am I the only one having trouble with the RHEL puppetlabs repos?
This is the third time I''ve sent a message about this. Does anybody know
what''s going on? I''m going to file a bug if this isn''t fixed soon.

MySQL and charsets: latin1 vs. utf8
Hi,
Our public library management software (PMB) is currently running on a
Slackware Linux 12.0 server, with Apache, PHP, MySQL and a few PHP
modules. I'm considering migrating it to CentOS 5.1, because it would be
easier to maintain for updates, and for various other reasons.
Slackware is one of the rare distros that does not default to an utf8
system locale. The default is en_US, and

Hardware recommendations for XEN
Hi,
I am new to this list. I am planning for hardware upgrade for a new
Linux installation, and I am planning to have it Xen-based. I am
planning to use stable Xen 2.x. This is not going to be a
hyper-performance computer, just a home computer.
So here are few questions I have:
What configurations of CPU/Motherboard/Chipset etc. are already known
not to work, or have problems with Xen? Are

unexpected raid1 behavior?
Hi, I''m starting to play with btrfs on my new computer. I''m running Gentoo and
have compiled the 2.6.31 kernel, enabling btrfs.
Now I have 2 partitions (on 2 different sata disks) that are free for me to
play with, each about 375 gb in size. I wanted to create a "raid1" volume
using these two partitions, so I did:
# mkfs.btrfs -d raid1 /dev/sda5 /dev/sdb5
# mount

Hi folks,
For people who might be interested, here is how btrfs performs
with two partitions on a single SSD drive in a RAID-1 mirror.
This is on a Dell E4200 with Core 2 Duo U9300 (1.2GHz), 2GB RAM
and a Samsung SSD (128GB Thin uSATA SSD).

[Sieve] Multiple email recipients, how?
I think you mean collecting all email addresses and connecting them
(manually) to the correct mailbox in the config of Postfix (or equiv, I
have no idea what is used at my hosting provider)? That sounds like a
doable one-time action if all new addresses use proper sub-addressing.

Disabling NETBIOS over TCP/IP
Hi,
i'm trying to configure XP clients to communicate with Samba3 PDC without
NETBIOS. I've disabled NETBIOS over TCP/IP on XP clients and on Samba3
server. I also created neccessary DNS records as described in
Samba-HOWTO-Collection but yet without success.
I've created DNS SRV entry _ldap._tcp.pdc._msdcs.domainame.com as described
in Samba-HOWTO but this is what happends:

a <blush> build/install question
This is probably an idiot (and certainly so basic as to be non-Dovecot)
question, but I have been chasing my tail for a day or so on it, so I
will, with humiliation, ask for guidance on it.
Some time back I had asked if dovecot had to have a whole build tree of
stuff to run or if any upgrade could be limited to just the executable
and some libraries. I was told the latter, and given this list:
dovecot (the executable)
dovecot.conf
