DVD rom questions
I'm running CentOS 3 and have just installed a Liteon lightscribe DVD/CD
unit. I firstly realized I didn't know exactly how to mount it, as /dev/dvd
didn't exist, I didn't want to generate anything if it already existed, and
I didn't want to mess up my cdrom unit that works just fine.
I mounted the device though the X window just to see how it might mount, and
find that it

LVM - pvmove and multiple servers
Hi All.
Looking for some guidance/experience with LVM and pvmove.
I have a LUN/PV being presented from a iscsi SAN. The LUN/PV is presented
to 5 servers as a shared VG they all have LV's they use for data, they are
all connected via iSCSI.
As the SAN I am using is being replaced I need to move onto a new unit.
My migration strategy at this time is to
1. Present a new LUN from the new SAN

Manage of firewall.
Hello,
I see manage of firewall in CentOS (called security), and seems
difficult to manage, not enough powerful.
I am searching a middle term between scripts of iptables to manage and
Security manager of CentOS. I know FireStarter, another similar?

Seeking pointers to info about LVM migration and performance
We have a large MySQL database currently running on a CentOS 3.x
server with an external SCSI RAID device. This is currently an ext2
filesystem because it was migrated once previously from an even older
RedHat system. We need to add storage capacity to this database and
prepare for additional future growth. One of the options under
consideration is to move to CentOS 5 and use LVM.

iptables settings for X11 forwarding in CentOS 6.2
Hi,
We recently installed CentOS 6.2 on our cluster. During
the installation/debugging of various secondary software, we had
disabled iptables. When we re-enabled them, we found that the
front-end would no longer X11 forward (although it does so
when the iptables are off). What do we need to set in the
iptables to permit X11 forwarding? Currently we're using
iptables -P INPUT DROP

about the need for QOS routing on a mixed voice data
broadband like ADSL.
Has anyone run * on a production system with voice and
data.
Can anyone share what has to be done to secure the
voice and throttle back the data?
If a linux router is need can that run on the * box to
reduce cost?
All help is gratefully received, so I can plan a

Need to test serial port connection
I recently bought a new UPS, and I''m attempting to use nut to monitor it.
Following setup instructions everything seemed to go well until it came to
testing the connection, which failed.
There is just one serial connector on the computer, so I set it to
monitor /dev/ttyS0. Either that is wrong, or communication is failing.
I''ve been told to try minicom to monitor it,
