Also - looking more closely at our multipath.conf.defaults, there is an entry for
a product pattern HSV2.*
That would explain why the multipath settings for the HSV200 looked different to
the HSV400 - the HSV200 was picking up a different set of defaults.
However still not exactly what we had specified.
(sort of like CSS behaviour....."cascading multipath.conf defaults" ! :-) )
You also possibly need to pay attention to the basic whitespace formatti...

We have a rh linux server connected to two HP SAN controllers, one an HSV200 (on the way out),
the other an HSV400 (on the way in). (Via a Qlogic HBA).
/etc/multipath.conf contains this :

Restart problem - HP Blade servers EVA 4000 - Suse Linux 10 - ocfs2
Hello,
configuration:
- 4 HP Proliant 460c servers in HP Blade
- disc array HP EVA 4000 with two controllers HSV200
- OS: SUSE Linux 10 (SLES) x86_64
- ocfs2 - ocfs2_tools_1.2.1-5.6
Problem:
all servers share configuration files for cups on ocfs2 volume on HP EVA 4000
1. shutdown -r now - not restart but halt server (perhaps on unmount filesystem) - for all servers used EVA ocfs2 volume same problem
2. if on...
