trying to build driver for hpt374 raid controler
I'm trying to build driver for hpt374 raid controler on a new installation of contOS 4.2 followin the instroctions in this thread http://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?viewmode=flat&order=DESC&topic_id=223&forum=7 It says that I should run "yum install kernel-sourcecode" to get the files I need and...

HighPoint RocketRaid 454
...nfiguration. We're thinking of equipping two of these cards with 8 120GB Hitachi drives and run it in an RAID-5 array for video material. The usual data streams will likely be 2-3 streams at about 5-20MB/s (totally) and I know that a single drive will handle that, but I'm unsure if the HPT 454 is really stable in FreeBSD. We'll be running this on a 4.8 installation. Now to my questions... Is the HPT 454 card & driver production stable? Do you think that it will handle 60MB/s (read)? Has anyone had a drive failure with this card and successfully replaced it while the system...

Integrating a Raid Driver
It appears that CentOS is having problems with my hard disks, which I have off of an HPT 374 Raid controller but with no Raid stripes created, ie. I am just using it as an IDE controller. There is the latest Linux open source for the HPT 374 on Highpoint's web site, which I have downladed. While I understand 'make' and am a programmer myself, I understand nothing about t...

CentOS 5 grub boot problem
I am trying to upgrade my system from 500GB drives to 1TB. I was able to partition and sync the raid devices, but I cannot get the new drive to boot. This is an old system with only IDE ports. There is an added Highpoint raid card which is used only for the two extra IDE ports. I have upgraded it with a 1TB SATA drive and an IDE-SATA adapter. I did not have any problems with the system

FreeBSD 7.0-RC3 (for amd64/i386 only) Available
We're doing a "mini-RC3" to encourage testing of the Highpoint driver (hptrr) backout. Testing of 7.0-RC2 showed there were problems with the driver update done between RC1 and RC2. Because it's a "mini-RC" targetted at testing of one particular thing we have not bothered with setting up FreeBSD Update. You can use the normal cvsup-and-build method of doi...

Installation problem, possibly RAID
...nto text mode, and repeated lines of: ext3-fs error (device hde9) in start transaction, Journal has aborted. continued to fill the screen. The only way to proceed was to hit the restart button of my computer. My thoughts of possible reasons for the failure are these. My hard drive is off of an HPT 374 Raid controller, without Raid being actually used on it, and is a 160 GB hard drive, 147 GB formatted. The /boot (hde6) partition starts at approximately the 56 GB boundary, the / (hde9) partition starts at approximately the 76 GB, and the swap drive starts at approximately the 106 GB bounda...

2.4.20: ext3/raid5 - allocating block in system zone/multiple 1 requests for sector]

This is a straight 2.4.20 kernel. The previous messages to the list with this form of error have suggested the problem is related to >2TB arrays; but this one is a relative tiny one. Help greatly appreciated, Dave ---------------- Have a happy...

SiL311x SataRaid (sata_sil)
Hi, On my x86_64 system I have a SiL311x controller that can do RAID. If I configure my 2 identical disks in a RAID1 setup, I would expect to see only 1 block device on Linux. Still I see 2 block devices. Is this intentional, and if so, isn't that dangerous ? (i.e. writing to both disks at the same time) Anyone with an insight, please explain :) -- dag wieers, dag at wieers.com,

"dumb" SATA controller recommendation
Just wondering if any 4.2 users out there have a favourite "dumb" PCI controller to add a couple of SATA ports to a motherboard that doesn't include SATA support. I'm not looking for anything fancy, just 2 SATA ports that a recent vintage kernel will recognize without a lot of configuration gymnastics. The intended use is for relatively light weight internet browser

Promise FastTrak series
Hello, In some weeks I'm going to reinstall some old RedHat9 based servers with Promise FastTrak TX2000 "semi-hardware" RAID1 controllers. I just tried to install CentOS 4.0 on a computer with a spare card and as usual both HDD attached to the RAID1 controller are seen separately by the installer because the specific driver for the TX2000 wasn't loaded. Nothing new here, it
