2.2.x Printing from Win2k-more clues
I've discovered a couple of things while troubleshooting my printer setup problems. 1. print$ must be 0744. I ran a level-3 debug, and was seeing "chmod failed" errors. Upping it to level-10, I saw something that pointed to unix rights of 0744; my dir's were set to 0755 or 0777...neither worked. When I set print$ and it's subdir's to 0744, the chmod errors went away.

printing setup
I have the following in my /etc/samba/smb.conf, yet i still cannot print from a Windows desktop client. I can see the printer and it goes through the motions of setting up the printer, it just doesn't print. It gives an error message about the network name cannot be found. Yet if I browse thru network neighborhood I can see the printer. What I see thouh is a name for the printer called

HP Jetdirect, Intel Netport, Samba, And Windows XP
Hello, I have a bunch of Windows XP Pro machines, Samba 2.2.4, and several plotters on Jetdirect cards, and several printers on Netport 10/100 Muli-port network print servers. I have successfully configured Samba 2.2.4 to allow Windows XP to join the domain controlled by Samba and automaticaly create its own computer account on Samba. I would now like to setup Samba to share all the printers

printer permissions
A stupid question. With new printing system (spoolss) how people restrict access to the printers ? It was clear with the old system when each printer was in a separate share. I could assign a list of valid users for each printer share. TIA. -- Yuri Pismerov, Sr. System Administrator, TUCOWS.COM INC. (416) 535-0123 ext. 1352

How to set up spooling for a HP JetDirect interface?
...error message, but the job gets lost. :( I would like the print jobs to be spooled on Linux even when there is an active print job or when the printer is off-line. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with lpd. The relevant lines from smb.conf: [global] load printers = no printing = lprng [HP4Plus] public = yes browsable = yes writable = no create mode = 0700 printable = yes path = /mnt/sda5/samba/print print command = /usr/local/bin/lpr -P@x.x.x.x -r -h %s;rm %s lpq command = /usr/local/bin/lpq -P@x.x.x.x lprm command = /usr/local/bin/lprm - P@x.x.x.x %j pr...

FW: my printers are still paused in Win2k and WinNT 4.0
...doubt > it). I might have missed a clue - is the printer saying it's Paused, or the last job printed saying that it's Paused after being printed? :done_jobs=0 relates to the printed job, not the printer... Do you have guest ok=yes in the printer's subsection in smb.conf? e.g. [HP4Plus] guest ok=yes or [Printers] guest ok=yes > I also have some more interesting data for the problem > 1.)The HP 4m printer all of a sudden started to work it showed > "ready"!! I come back about 5 mins later and it showed > "pause" again???? > This means...

Printing...
Can anyone give me a hand with printing. Does hosts.lpr need the ips of the windows machines that I want to print from? I am running Mandrake 6.0 on a P-166. The P-166 has the printer attached to it. It can print just fine and another linux box can also print just fine over the network. My Windows box sees the printer and installs it just fine. The test page however never prints. No error

my printers are still paused in Win2k and WinNT 4.0
Hello, It seems that I am in printer hell once again :) I am trying to sort out some printer problems with our UNIX server. The basic problem is this. I have a test server to K.I.S.S the problem. On this server I have defined two queues which are csqlis and HPfinley. csqlis seems to work correctly and displays ready. HPfinley always reads Paused on win2k and NT40 clients. The output of the lpq

Printing with CUPS & Samba...
...from both a Win98 PC via Samba and a Red Hat 8.0 workstation to an HP 4 Plus printer that is connected to a Red Hat 8.0 server. I have managed to get the Win98 PC working OK, but am having difficulty with the RH8 workstation. I set the printer up using a browser with <Server>:631, calling it HP4Plus, and I can send a test print from the browser on the RH8 box via <Server>:631. I can view and access the other server samba shares OK, but I am unable to send it a print job from the RH8 box. First of all on the RH8 box, I tried to set the printer as a UNIX Printer (lpd Queue) and named th...

Win2k Printing Problems
I just joined this list, If this has been answered before I apologize: I have a Redhat 7.2 box running Samba 2.2.4 I have a few printers running on JetDirect boxes that I am attempting to print to. I used printconf in Redhat to set them up within the linux box. Everything works fine from the linux box. I set them up within samba (see [printers] below), but when I print I get "Failed to

Print Job Notification
Can anyone suggest a way to have a notification after a print job has completed. I currently have this as my print command: lpr -r -P%p %s; csh -c 'echo \"%J has started printing on %S\" | /usr/bin/smbclient -U %L -M %m -I %I' & It kind of does what I want, but notice that the message says that "Job has STARTED printing on Printer". This is because with this
