Samba and TCP printing ports
I've read in the documentation that Samba does not use ports like Win2k. So how does Samba know where to find a network printer if it has it's own IP address (stand-alone printer)? I have created a printer in my /etc/printcap file: HP4000:\ :sd=/var/spool/lpd/hp4000:\ :mx#0: :sh:\ :rm:192.168.2.13:rp=raw: :rp=:\ added this to my smb.conf [printers] comment = All Printers printable = yes path = /var/spool/lpd browseable = no guest ok = yes public = yes read only = yes writable = no [print$] comment = Printer Download Area path = /...

Making nt_printer.tdb from tdbtool?
...filters which do accounting. To help this we're trying to automate the printer and driver registration processes, in particular make the nt_printers.tdb, ntdrivers.tdb (and ntforms.tdb?) files from some kind of textual config file which might look like this: pr-london1: hp2200 pr-newyork3: hp4000 ... Our goal is to bring our printing in line with our other configuration management, which has a central server of configs for routers, servers and so on. The config server doesn't run any applications and so can't have Samba running on it to receive rcpclient requests. Anybody achiev...

Print Server
Ok, here's my setup: I've had a samba file server going for about a year now. It's Samba v2.05a on a RH6.0 sys. Currently we have a printer server running on a Winblows NT box. This NT box has the following printers: HP5si, (4) HP4000, and a few HP4s. All of those printers have Jet Direct ports on them. What I want to do is, move all the printers over to the Samba box and KILL the NT box. Reading into the Samba book, it seems that yes, Samba can become a print server by reusing existing shares off of other Winblows, unix or Nov...

more printing + general domain advice
...rom an email from outlook and the bold H gets left out. Different emails, different fonts, but always the capital H. Here is the system. RH7.3 compiled cups from cups.org 1.1.15 (and printing with it) samba 2.2.5 from RH RPM main printer is minolta d350 although there are queues set up for several hp4000's that work. no print status for any printer. On another note I started this network about 10 years ago with 5 pc's on a peer to peer. It is still setup pretty much as a work group. is it worth trying to get samba to act as a PDC and move forward that way? Currently we have 45 client pc...

Printing Errors
I've been running RedHat 5.0 and Samba flawlessly for over 6 months now. I had to reboot the server and now I can't seem to print. When I use the "Printtool" to send a test text or postscript job to the printer, I get the following error: Unable to print to HP4000 Error Message: lpr: connect: no such file or directory jobs queued, but cannot start daemon The printer is set up as a remote lpd queue to the HP Jetdirect card on an HP 4000, and sharable to Win95 PC's. Any info or suggestions as to where I can start looking will be greatly apprciated!!! T...

Win2K Printer Driver Problems - Hi Jerry!!
Nope, close but no cigar. With 2.2.6Pre2 Word started to behave itself but Outlook acts as though landscape is a foreign concept(i.e everything prints portrait regardless of page setup). Spoolsv also crashes on the Win2K workstations requiring a manual restart of the spooler service. We will downgrade to 2.2.5 and try Jerry's patch. In another message Jerry talks about "running"
