When do modules get auto-imported
My understanding was that at the beginning of each run the
puppetmaster imports all modules so that any includes at the top level
are applied directly. However, I am not so sure anymore.
I''ve been tracing how this works and it seems like modules are
included more lazily. In other words, when able_to_import is called
seems like when the magic happens, rather than up front when the run

HELP:Custom function didn't work
hi,guys-
I have a mysql database which stores host informations,so I wrote a
function to get some values.
- Here is the function rb(this function should return the type I defined
in the database):
#hosttype.rb
require "mysql"
module Puppet::Parser::Functions
newfunction(:hosttype, :type => :rvalue, :doc => "Gets host type from
db.") do |args|
dbh = Mysql.real_connect("mysql_server_ip", "username", "password",

DG/UX R4.20MU03
Has anyone had any experience with ssh and DG/UX? I tried the ./configure and
it could not determine the hosttype. After that problem was worked-arounded I
get a LOT of warnings about declaring functions multiple times and then the
compile fails with:

R-alpha: Re unified shell script
Some time ago there was the suggestion to add a PLATFORM subdir level
for bin (and eventually the library subdirs with `binaries'), and the
idea to have the shell wrapper automagically call the right binary.
I mentioned that one might be able to use the shell variables OSTYPE and
HOSTTYPE for that, noticing however that e.g on my Debian Linux/GNU/ix86
bash tcsh
OSTYPE Linux linux
HOSTTYPE i386 i386-linux
Hmm ... It seems (a colleague just checked that) that these variables
are not POSIX either, and hence I'd say rather useless for our purpose.
In the absence of a reliable...

puppet way of handling rdist and triggers
We have an existing "management system" of sorts, based on rdist. I''d like
to know the best way to migrate it to using puppet.
Currently, we have a local binaries tree, rdisted out nightly. We also
make use of rdist''s extra capability to trigger scripts when and if named
files are updated.
I''m not sure what the best method would be, of converting this to
