VMware hostonly networking
I already wrote some lines about vmware with hostonly mode networking in
SAMBA digest 2339
(as far as samba is concerned).

CentOS 7 regression, can not take a KVM qcow2, convert it and boot it on ESXi...
Guys,
I have a Packer build procedure, that works like a charm, when with CentOS 6.7.
Exemplifying:
1- Packer (with virtio disk) + QEmu + CentOS 6.7 ISO;
2- Create a RAW image;
3- Convert the RAW image into QCOW2 for KVM hypervisors (okay);
4- Convert the RAW image into VMDK for ESXi hypervisors (okay).
However, when doing the very same procedure, with CentOS 7.2 ISO, it
does not boot

Is this possible the hostonly option in dracut causing fun?
"On RHEL-7 the hostonly mode is the default mode. Generic "non-hostonly"
images are created, if the dracut-config-generic rpm is installed. The
rescue kernel entry in the bootloader menu is also a generic image."

heads up: /boot space on kernel upgrade
Default boot volume on Fedora is 500M, with a kernel installonly_limit
of 3. So far this seems sufficient, even accounting for the "rescue
kernel" (which is really a nohostonly initramfs, which is quite a bit
larger than the standard hostonly initramfs used for numbered
kernels).

4.9 kernel fails to boot because it didn't have the mpt3sas module
Howdy,
I hit a snag trying to install Xen4CentOS on a Supermicro based system
(X9DRD-7LN4F with the Broadcom/LSI 2308 chipset). I spent a few hours on
this today, I'm posting this here in case it helps anyone else and saves
them the frustration I dealt with.
On this system I did a fresh install of CentOS 7, updated it, rebooted it,
then installed Xen.
The system was booting fine using the

You should be able to make this change permanently from /etc/dracut.conf with
the add_drivers+= line, or build a generic initrd with hostonly="no" .
I don't know why it wasn't originally added.

IIRC, we saw discussions elsewhere, and ... I think it's called fedup

Pushing real machines into KVM/Qemu
Hi all,
I took a real Core 2 machine (T7200? whose motherboard was starting to die?) running Fedora 29 and dd?d the SSD over to my KVM server, then created a VM using ?create from existing image?.
After some tweaking, including setting the disk type to ?SATA? from ?Virtio?, I got it working.
Is there a fixed recipe for virtualizing CentOS/Fedora/RHEL instances into running VM?s on KVM/Qemu?

Thank you for this. Adding mpt2sas or mpt3sas to the drivers+ line
worked. Running dracut generates a proper image now.

Slow CentOS VM when running off the network
I have a CentOS 5.3 VM running under VMware on a WIndows XP laptop.
Everything works fine when connected to the network. However,
removed from the network, most everything in the CentOS VM takes
minutes to complete. For instance, starting a new Terminal window
takes over 3 minutes. I did an strace, and there are a couple of
long waits when trying to open a socket

heads up: /boot space on kernel upgrade
I have a CentOS 6 machine that was initially installed as CentOS 6.4
in May of 2013. It's /boot filesystem is 200M which, IIRC, was the
default /boot size at the time.
The most recent kernel update (2.6.32-573.18.1.el6) fails because of
lack of space in /boot. The workaround is edit /etc/yum.conf, reduce
installonly_limit from 5 to something lower (I used 3), remove the
oldest kernel via

Replication fails with (WERR_GEN_FAILURE)
Hello,
I set up a domain with two DCs (dns-backend is BIND9_DLZ) on a Debian 10
system. I used either the Debian-packages or the Packages from Louis
(4.12.8). I created an Ansible-role to setup everything, starting from
installing the packages over doing the provision/join up to change the
settings for bind9. The first DC runs fine. After the reboot services
are all present, allthe SRV Record for
