How to set hostname and domainnmae in CentOS 7?
We can permanently set hostname using hostnamectl set-hostname. How can we permanently set *domain name* in CentOS 7? I found an article <http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/239920/how-to-set-the-fully-qualified-hostname-on-centos-7-0> that recommended setting FQDN using hostnamectl. Is that the right way to set hostname and domainname a...

After upgrade to 4.9.4, internal DNS no longer working
...us samba was accepting these settings, but a latest samba not. Or a previous systemd version accepted these and a newer not..   Setting : DNSStubListener=No in /etc/systemd/resolved.conf. is correct also, yes, its what you preffer, i mask the needed services.   >hostname is DC1, confirmed by hostnamectl, resolv.conf has just two entries: nameserver (own IP), and search samdom.example.com. Same as it is now, so this all works. Just that because it works, that does not tell you if its correct.     I dont expect that this problem is a samba problem, because we would have seen moch more messages. i...

What is the new thing in CentOS 7 to set the host name such that then the prompt is correct also? Thanks Jerry

Central hostname management?
...all be cloned with Ghost4Linux. Now I'm trying to do the same thing on CentOS 7. /etc/hosts: 127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost (IPv6 is disabled) /etc/hostname: localhost I'm experimenting with all this while reading the RHEL Networking Guide. I understand CentOS 7 is using hostnamectl to manage the hostname. In that case, what do I have to do? Can hostnamectl be somewhat disabled and/or removed? C7 and /etc/sysconfig/network
Does Centos 7 use /etc/sysconfig/network or is this replaced by some systemctl set of commands. For example I know to set my host name with: hostnamectl set-hostname nevia.htt-consult.com But I don't know if this is the same as cat <<EOF>/etc/sysconfig/network || exit 1 NETWORKING=yes HOSTNAME=nevia.htt-consult.com EOF

hostname service?
...I see that I couldn't previously find it with systemctl because it is a "static" service, neither enabled nor disabled. What is "static" really intended to mean here? The other static services seem to be boot-time related for the most part, eg anaconda, pvscan.... Man for hostnamectl (also new to me) indicates some potential uses for the hostnamed-maintained names, yet I see nothing obvious making use of that info. Can you give me an example? Thanks for the clues.....Nick Geovanis >Date: Sun, 27 Dec 2015 18:14:55 -0700 >From: Brandon Vincent <Brandon.Vincent at asu.e...
