R-beta: ctest_0_9-3_tar.tar
I'm having trouble un 'tar'ing the file ctest_0_9-3_tar.tar.
When using the command "tar -xv" on a UNIX machine I get the
"checksum error" message. When trying to use WinZip on a Win95
machine it gives an error reading the header.
I'm downloading from the CRAN site at Carnegie Mellon. Could the file
there be corrupted?
Thanks for any help, and sorry if

Change in downloading packages
Hi,
I sent an earlier message concerning this, but perhaps I wasn't clear enough.
Up until about a month ago, I downloaded packages by clicking on the filename
of the package. Now this action leads me to a directory listing, e.g.:

problem with hist() for 'times' objects from 'chron' package
Hello dear useRs and wizaRds,
I encountered the following problem using the hist() method for the
'times' classes
from package 'chron'. You should be able to recreate it using the code:
library(chron)
# pasted from chron help file (?chron)
dts <- dates(c("02/27/92", "02/27/92", "01/14/92", "02/28/92",
"02/01/92"))

easy graphic question
Hi!
How do I specify a filled point in a scatterplot? Their size?
plot(x,y) just gives "empty" points like "o". I want a full black
point.
TIA

R-alpha: a question on terminology
Whereas we typically refer to the add-on `modules' as `libraries' (viz
also the way these are represented in the search list, and the variable
.Libraries), S speaks about `sections'.
Shall we stay with our terminology? Or instead, speak of `sections',
`packages', `modules', ...?

Inf in expression (PR#326)
I was getting worried. 0.65 is the first version that I had not been
able to crash. Well the following gives a seg fault on Intel RH5.2
with R0.65.1:
plot(rnorm(20),xlab=expression(mu[Inf]))
You can guess what I was trying to do, as I used infty first and that
did not work. (I now know the correct formula.)

R-alpha: R `make install-*'
Ross mentioned last week that it would be nice to eventually have a real
`make install'. As a preparation, we should perhaps rename the current
install-help install-latex install-html
targets to
help latex [or dvi???] html
and perhaps
test-Examples
to
test
I can of course make the changes, but I thought I'd ask for a good new
name for the corresponding scripts in RHOME/etc.

R News Volume 2/2
We have just published the 2002/2 issue of R News on
http://cran.R-project.org/doc/Rnews
where you can download the newsletter as PDF or Postscript file. It
will propagate to the CRAN mirrors within a day or two.
This issue focuses on the R 1.5.0 release, with key innovations in the
standard add-on package 'ts' and the two new recommended packages 'grid'
and 'lattice'.
