hopelessly overdispersed?
dear list!
i am running an anlysis on proportion data using binomial (quasibinomial
family) error structure. My data comprises of two continuous vars, body
size and range size, as well as of feeding guild, nest placement, nest
type and foragig strata as factors. I hope to model with these variables
the preference of primary forests (#successes) by certain bird species.
My code therefore looks

Caller ID : FSK ETSI or FSK US
...not detect it.
The converter has a switch FSK ETSI or FSK US
This is what I put in /etc/asterisk/chan_dahdi.conf

cidsignalling=bell
cidstart=ring

If after buying this converter hardware and upgrade to dahdi 2.6.1 still
not solve my caller id problem, I really dont know what to do and feel
hopeless :(
Thanks,
Anam.

Removed old DC, now replication hopelessly broken [HELP]
I removed a DC using the DC removal tool mentioned in
http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/d31f091f-2642-4ede-9f97-0e1cc4d577f3
as https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10734 prevents normal DC
demotion.
The DC was still all over in DNS, so I had to pick it out.
Now replication between the remaining three DCs is broken

Anybody using TE410P on BT ISDN with DAHDI?
Is anybody else using the following combination:
* a TE410P card (wct4xxp driver)
* a BT ISDN connection
* DAHDI 2.3.0.1
* Asterisk 1.6.2.9
I'm trying to configure a new box to replace a legacy system (same hardware;
some old version of Asterisk with Zaptel; works lovely but hopelessly
out-of-date) and not having much joy. Specifically, I couldn't get it to
see a D-channel on channel 16 of span 1. And without a D-channel, there is
no way I'm going to be able to get a call in or out.
This could well be because the syntax of modern /etc/dahdi/system.conf

Windows program detects debugger and quits
...ACR with Wine on a Mandrake
system. The install goes beautifully (thanks to all of those hardworking
programmers!). But when I try to run ACR it complains that Windows is being
run in Debug mode and quits.
This is also what happened when trying to run ACR on Win4Lin. Does this make
running ACR hopeless on any emmulator or is there a way around this?
Thanks!

unimplemented function gdiplus.dll.GdipGetGenericFontFamilySansSerif
...n stack overflow 0 bytes in thread 000b eip
7bc35267 esp 00411000 stack 0x411000-0x620000
Googling gdiplus.dll.GdipGetGenericFontFamilySansSerif produces no
hits, nor does a search of the Wine bugs.
Does this error message suggest any obvious things to try next, or
does it mean that this is hopeless, and I should give up with this
version of Wine?

plotmath
There's something (probably a lot) missing in my understanding of
plotmath. The LaTeX code for what I'm trying to produce is
\log(-\log(\hat R))
My (probably hopeless) attempt at it uses nested group()s:
expression(plain(log) * group("(", -plain(log)*group("(", \hat(R), ")"),
")"))
Can anyone do it right for me, please?
Thanks,
Ted.

Import from Evolution
...mail database generated by the evolution mail
reader into dovecot. Evolution stores its mail in maildir format (fully
standards compatible, I think); I would be using the maildir format in
dovecot. Is there anything in the wiki, etc. explaining exactly how to
do this?
Why do this? Evolution is hopelessly broken, and is not likely to be
fixed in the forseeable future, and I would like to keep my mails in
maildir form. Reviews of kmail are very bad, and thunderbird uses the
mbox format for storage.

Weird POSIXct behaviour
...FALSE
Browse[2]>

Browse[2]> class(index(DATA.ba[[p]]["2012-03-20 00:59:57","bid"]))

So the variable 'Time' should be good to index DATA.ba[[p]]. I am
hopelessly confused.

Final comment from a newbie
...d about this sort of thing before).
In the week I've been on it, there have been questions I could not
understand, struggling as I am with the basics of R syntax, which were
answered, and questions I could understand, which were met with
irritation and rebuke.
Made me decide not to post my hopelessly amateur question on getting R
to remember my proxy settings between sessions...
It's reasonable to say that for every naive question there were at least
two curt replies. Amazing how people can find the time to be rude, given
how busy they must be.
Well, I'm signing off now. I will l...

Logistic regression with multiple imputation
...percentage of missing
ranges from 0.01% to 10% for the independent variables.
My current thinking is to conduct a logistic regression with multiple
imputation, but I don't know how to do it in R. I searched the web but
couldn't find instructions or examples on how to do this. Since SPSS is
hopeless with missing data, I have to learn to do this in R. I am new to R,
so I would really appreciate if someone can show me some examples or tell me
where to find resources.
Thank you!

Problems restoring from dump
...rything looked good. The
problem came when I started up Thunderbird to take a look at my mail.
When I selected a message, say one that said "knockout daily run
output", I'd be reading a different message entirely, like a recent
email from my boss! Most of the messages were like this - hopelessly
scrambled! I tried just deleting the account in Thunderbird and
connecting again, but that didn't change a thing.
What happened!? Dump has faithfully restored the files, including the
dovecot indexes... so why are my messages scrambled?
Thanks for your help,
Paul

ClamAV help needed
...ssumed all
is well. Clearly it isn't.
Every day I see in logwatch that my signatures are updated, and the database
notified, but if I try to scan a file manually it tells me that my signatures
are 55 days old.
I tried looking at a how-to, in the hope of identifying the problem, but it is
hopelessly out of date, and I reached the stage where it seemed that
following it any further risked my installation.
Can someone please give me a quick run-down of the things I should check.
Clearly freshclam is running, but that's about all I know for certain.
Thanks

How to 'extend' a data.frame based on given variable combinations ?
...2005.
Although tapply() sees the missing year 2001 for group "B" (since group "A" has a value there),
tapply() does not 'see' the missing year 2002.
How can such a data.frame be constructed [ideally without using additional R packages]?
Here is a straightforward way (hopelessly inefficient for the application in mind):
num <- cbind(expand.grid(group = LETTERS[1:2], year=2001:2005), num=0)
covar <- c("group", "year")
for(i in seq_len(nrow(num)))
num[i,"num"] <- sum(apply(x[,covar], 1, function(z) all(z == num[i,covar])))
num

3D plotting in R
A student is trying to cluster some data. Tree-building things seem to
be pretty hopeless (we've tried most of the ones in R, I think).
Multi-dimensional scaling produces somewhat tantalising results:
things do clump together somewhat, but the clusters overlap a lot.
I was wondering if these was an artefact of squeezing it down to 2D,
and whether 3D might be better. So

How to copy a system?
...v's.
Also the ethernet connection, which had been eth1 on A,
was now eth0 on B, and this did not work.
This was only a kind of experiment.
There is a problem with the partition table on machine A,
and I thought it would be useful to have a backup machine
with exactly the same setup.
Is this a hopeless enterprise, or can it be done easily?
