R CMD check does not recognize S4 functions inside other functions?
...the .rd file directly. However, when defined within a function in the package, the lines cause an error. Sparse matrices improve the computational efficiency of the routines I am developing and I would like to use them. But I'm not sure how I can get around this error. Many thanks, Giles Hooker

newbie: fourier series for time series data
Hi Guys, I had a monthly time series's data of land temperature from 1980 to 2008. After plotting a scatter diagram, it seems that annually, there is a semi sinusoidal cycle. How do I run Fourier's series to the data so that I can fit model on it? I am really sorry for my question sound stupid, but I just don't know where to start. I am desperately looking for help from you guys.

IRC telling you to go to mailing list - it's for good reason ....
...wasted. IRC has been around for a long time, but unless the irc server is irc.(project domain name here).org then expect it to be staffed by volunteers and people who may not have the same focus as yourself. IRC is just one of a number of resources. It a good spot for instant relief, (think street hooker), but the mailing list is your wife! *disclaimer* I do not advocate the use of street hookers, nor do I discriminate/have any negative feeling towards against those who do, or indeed are ? - I just wanted to make a point! I think I made my point, all the resources are out there on the web, this i...

How to get a server listed in the IMAP Test wiki?
...il business generally, and I know Switzerland borders on Italy ... This sounds, (albeit vaguely,) altogether too much like the thieves I seem to have fallen amongst lately. Two stolen trucks, three stolen laptops, another one wrecked, three or four stolen cell phones, passwords GPG keys, city hall hookers and towers and parking masters took everything the first moment I turned my back on it. Smashed the windows, hot wired the ignition at 4am assaulted me, mugged me in the street after I made a police complaint. I barely made it away alive. Another cop trying to arrest me without a warrant as I hopp...

Help needed to get the application work for native linux editors
...r(keyboard Manager/driver) developed for windows (using VC++) in Linux using wine. Its working in the wordpad application called using wine.I want to make it work in Linux editors. The technical details about the working of the keyboard driver is as follows. 1) The keyboard driver is a keyboard hooker program. The keyboard driver will trap all the keystrokes from the keyboard and convert the Ascii value to the appropriate native language Character code. 2) First we have to get the handle of the window/control where the cursor is currently located, for that the GetFocus API is used. 3) Virtual...

postgres unit testing in 0.10.1
http://dev.rubyonrails.com/changeset/856 looks to me like it''s not going to work, since there''s no way of specifying a password to pg_dump/dropdb/createdb. If you set PGPASSWORD in your environment it might work, but that''s not documented anywhere and isn''t done automatically in the Rakefile. ...e='fda'). A package using the returnMatrix argument will also need Matrix in the dependencies in DESCRIPTION and something like import(Matrix) in NAMESPACE. Each use will require adding returnMatrix = TRUE to an appropriate fda function call. diagonal matrix, array attributes and how to keep from setting an attribute on "NULL"

matplot.Date & matplot.POSIXct
...of adding "matplot.Date" and "matplot.POSIXct" to the "graphics" package? ????? Secondarily, might anyone have any thoughts about the defaults for "xlab" and "ylab" in "graphics::matplot"? ????? I ask, because the Jim Ramsay, Giles Hooker and I are preparing a new release of "fda", and Jim asked me if we needed to to have "matplot" masking "graphics::matplot".? Rather than answer that question, I thought I would ask a larger question of this group. ????? Thanks, ????? Spencer Graves

2 dimensional interpolation from matlab to R
Hi everybody. i have 2 datasets : one with a long grid a lat grid and a bathymetry grid the second one only has the long and lat coordinates. So i want to know the bathymetry associated to the second dataset. I thought it was a good idea to do an interpolation between the two datasets. I find a script doing that on matlab but i want to do it on R. Do you how to do it? for ii =

Vorbis Stuff on Slashdot
I had been working on an essay of my experiences with various codecs for a bit, and when slashdot's post came up, I couldn't help but excerpt part of and post it up there. It got a lot of comments and moderation points, so it's given me some "animo" to fix it up and put the rest of it out there. I'm going to distribute this under an open content license. If anyone
