Is This Really Legal?
I'm about to buy a new computer and give my old computer to my Mom. Because I will giving my old computer to my mom, I will be loosing my Windows XP license.
I can either get a nice computer with a Windows Lincense or I can buy and really honking mega awesome computer without a Windows License.
Naturally, I would rather buy a "honking mega awesome computer" instaed of a "nice computer", but I do have a problem... I have a couple of programs that need MS Windows, these programs are:
1) Cubase Studio 5
2) Emulator X

Stubbing yielding methods
I''ve just been tying my brain in knots looking at bug #8687 (
http://rubyforge.org/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=8687&group_id=1917&atid=7477
).
I''ve been (1) trying to work out whether there is anything logically wrong
with Mocha''s existing behaviour and (2) whether Mocha should support the
requested functionality.
It all centres around the use of the

Database Query on the fly Using Forms
I am a freshman when it comes to RoR, and I haven''t been able to figure
this out. I need to figure out how to query records in my database using
form check boxes (or radio buttons) then display them in that same
instance. What would this look?
I have been told that just putting a question mark after here,
:conditions => field = ?, but what would the argument look like?

Placing a MWI on-off call...
My grateful thanks to whoever can guide me in implementing this...
I have a need to place calls via Asterisk Manager Protocol to a legacy PBX
and twiddle its MWI lights.
By some means I get notified that an MWI light has to be changed.
Via AMP:
1. Send an ORIGINATE command honking up an incoming port on the PBX via a
TA804.
a. I presume that the TA804 should be a SIP channel. yes/no?
b. The local extension I have made a pseudo extension that answers and
plays a silent file. Sensible?
2. loop calling Play_DTMF and maybe silence between, to the SIP channel to
do the...

1) The "Label" values are ignored.
2) The "Time" values go into a single vector.
3) The "Array of data" values go into a single array.
The only thing I have been able to do is "scan" everything in to one
honking big list and then distribute the data out of this list one index
at a time. Surely there is a more elegant way? Thanks.

Debian libguestfs packages updated

I finally updated the Debian libguestfs packages:

Some questions I couldn't find answered in the docs:
1) Crispin of UW has a formats.txt file in which he lists and evaluates
the various formats. He calls the INBOX format type we use .unix (one
big honking flat file).
Q1: Is this what is described in the Dovecot docs mail-storages.txt file
as .mbox?
2) Authentication: The DC docs don't mention using NIS/yp for
authentication, that I can find.
Q2: Does DC support NIS/yp authentication?
I guess I could periodically do a ypcat passwd to a file...

wireless card on amd64
All,
Over the weekend I purchased a linksys wireless-g PCI card
for use in my amd64 box. I downloaded ndiswrapper, compiled, installed,
tried to load the driver off the CDROM and it was a no-go.
I have do this on another box with an amd sempron. Difference being
32 bit versus 64 bit...
Seems there are no 64 bit drivers for the wireless card.
Anyone have a wireless card working on a 64 bit

...need be the 'buffer' in which we
pass the VOIP traffic to the third-parties gateway. We need to do this
so that we can still remain 'the middle man' without our customer
going directly to the third party company.
My question is:
Can Asterisk simply route h323 VOIP traffic from Honk Kong to another
VOIP gateway? In essense Asterisk would do no termination, only route
the IP packets to a SINGLE IP address.
Hope that made sense.

cmd line parameter to set windows version?
Maybe I have overlooked this in the docu, but I'd like to know if there is a command line option to set the windows version, like eg.
wine --version=98 "c:\\foo\\bar\\spam.exe"
wine --version=xp "d:\\honk.exe"
I am asking because I have quite a lot of windows software (ie., games) that has buggy installers and/or core engines, and switching the wine default version *every* time until I have installed them all and have set the versions to use would be a bit tedious.

Streaming from Database

that Rails can handle it as well
2) There will be multiple instances of the application running on
multiple boxes all connecting to the same database, so the database is
the only place we can store data that will be accessible to all
instances
3) The database is a big honking box with a fiber connected SAN which
will perform much better than than the single IDE drives in the
application server boxes even if we could replicate the files to every
instance
I know that doing this will probably involve some database specific
code, and I don''t mind rolling up...

Storage Resource RAID & Disk type
Are there any best practice recommendations on RAID & disk type for the shared storage resource for a pool? I''m adding shelves to a HP MSA2000 G2, 24 drives total, minus hot spare(s). I can use 600GB SAS drives (15k rpm), 1TB or 2TB Midline SAS drives (7200rpm). I need about 3TB usable for roughly 30 VM guests, 100GB each, web servers so I/O needs are nominal.

Performance and scalability
Hi,
My question is.
What are your performance experiences compared to languages such as PHP,
PERL and ASP?
Could you build a site as big as Ebay on rails and have it perform fast
enough?
I''m afraid that the generalisation in components I see so much users
asking for will make the framework too heavy compared to a clean
programmed for perfomance PHP application. Probably even

ZFS for my home RAID? Or Linux Software RAID?
Hello All,
I build a new Storage Server to backup my data, keep archives of client files, etc I recently had a near loss of important items.
So I built a 16 SATA bay enclosure (16 hot swappable + 3 internal) enclosure, 2 x 3Ware 8 port RAID cards, 8gb RAM, dual AMD Opertron.
I have a 1tb boot drive and I put in 8 x 1.5tb Seagate 7200 drives. In the future I want to fill the other 8 SATA bays
