copying over an existing file when not owner
...depending
upon whether the file belongs to the copier or to
someone else.
If I try to copy a file to a samba share which
already contains an earlier version of the same
file, the file will still belong to me and the
date will be the date of the source file.
But if I copy a file over an existing homonymous
file which belongs to someone else, then the file
fill still belong to that other user but the date
will be the date at the moment of copying.
I've noticed that in both cases an overwritten
file keeps the same i-Node number (xfs), which is
a little unexpected. I'd expect the old file to be...

CIDR-matching in puppet manifests?
I have a few settings that change based on the network that a system is
in, and I have a heterogeneous collection of networks (a few /24s, some
/25s, a /29 and a couple /27s, and hey look a /16 in rfc1918 space
and...). So I can''t do simple regex matches on dotted-quad IP notation
and expect to get a complete story.
What I''d like is something like, I dunno...

Please could you help me to find a package to apply a depth-constrained cluster analysis on palaeoecological data (in order to zone subfossil diagram)?

Unusual behavior when two users have different shares with the same name
...b.conf we have the line:
include = /etc/smb/smb.%U.conf
which allows us to provide a different set of available shares to each user who connects. Notably, two users might have shares with the same name, but which point to different locations. And if both those users attempt to mount their own homonymous shares from the same machine, they each see their own share. But this breaks down if one of the users has already mounted something:
* Mount share foo as user A
* Mount share bar as user B
* Mount share bar as user A
* Observe that user A sees user B's version of bar
There is a workaround,...

Small mystery : passing a "subset=" argument to lme|lm through "..."
Dear list,
I have problems involving passing a "subset=" argument through "...".
I'm trying to augment the set of defined analyses for mice (homonymous
package) with a call to lme. This package create multiple imputations of
missing data in a "mids" object, each completed data set may be obtained
through the complete(data, set) function.

Problems with Win-Username containing a "Umlaut"
Hi!
I'm having a small network with 10 WinXP Pro computers and a SuSE 7.3 Linux Server.
I configured Samba to map the Windows Usernames of 9 computers correctly, but the one, with which Marc D?rner is working, is not mapped correctly. I found out, that this is caused by the "?" (german Umlaut). If the Username is "Marc Doerner" it'll work, but i'd like to keep it to

complicated finds are eating my sole
I abandoned ruby way for find_by_sql and still can''t get this...
@myplacement = Placement.find_by_sql(
"select * from placement where
:intake_date >= beg_intake_date
and
:intake_date <= end_intake_date")
just a simple date range...it''s killing me - If I knew how to load
placement controller into irb, I could probably try out finds
interactive mode...
Thanks

Cisco IOS and racoon
I am trying to get a tunnel from a cisco 1760 with IOS 12.2.15.t13 to a
freebsd 4.9 install with racoon. I have package version
freebsd-20040408a and internal version 20001216 in my log file.
I posted the full racoon and cisco log below my configs.
Racoon keeps saying:
2004-07-26 16:24:03: DEBUG: isakmp.c:2295:isakmp_printpacket(): begin.
