deleting from hash question
I''m a ruby newbie and have what is probably a relatively simple problem I''m trying to solve. Say that I created a hash: TASKS = { "homework" => "Do Your Homework", "chores" => "Your Have Chores", "exercise" => "Don''t Forget to Exercise" } and then I had an Assignment model with: def self.find_assignments(person) find(:all, :conditions => ["...

Homework help: t test hypothesis testing with summarized data?
Is this how a t hypothesis test is done when I don't have the actual data, but just the summarized statistics: > #Homework 9.2.6 [1] > n<-31 > xbar<-3.10 > s_x<-1.469 > m<-57 > ybar<-2.43 > s_y<-1.35 > s_pooled<- (((n-1)*s_x^2) + ((m-1)*s_y^2)) / (n + m - 2) > s_pooled [1] 1.939521 > t_obs <- (xbar - ybar) / (s_pooled * (sqrt(1/n + 1/m))) > t_obs [1] 1.547951 >...

Obtain gradient at multiple values for exponential decay model
...t; > ?predict > The ? details did not mention interpolation explicity; thanks. > The original question asked for a derivative (i.e. a "gradient"), but so far it's not clear that you understand the mathematical definiton of that term. We also remain unclear whether this is homework. > The motivation of this post was simple differentiation of a tangent point (dy/dx) manually, then wondering how to re-think in modern-day computing terms. Hence the original question about asking the appropriate functions/syntax to read further ("curiosity"), not the answer (indeed...

including Sweave tangled code in '.Rnw' document
Hello List, I have been using Sweave for my homework this last quarter and have been very impressed at how much time and effort it saves me. I, however, have run up against a problem which I have not been able to solve using any of the Sweave/LaTeX tricks I know. I work through my homework one problem at a time, typesetting equations and writing R...

how to show the number of each axis interval (plot)
Dear List, I am using plot for homework. The x-axis covered from 0 to 80, with 4 intervals. However, the plot only showed 0, 40, 80. 20 and 60 disappeared. Please kindly advise how to show 0, 20, 40, 60, 80 for the axis interval. Thank you. Elaine [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Sources for open sourced homework questions for R?
Hi, I am teaching a one month class in applied statistics and want to bring my students up to speed in R without devoting much/any lecture time to R instruction. I think that the best way to do this is to provide them with a lot of R questions for homework. These questions would be numerous (there is a lot of material to cover), go from very simple to somewhat complex, and focus on all the commands and options that will be useful in applied work. Here are some of my initial questions: ------------------------ Q: Load the data from the cars data fram...

statistics/correlation question NOT R question

I think I need to use results form the conditional bivariate normal but i'm really not sure. Also, it's not a homework problem because I am too old to have homework. Thanks for any insights/solutions. -------------------------------------------------------- This is not an offer (or solicitation of an offer) to buy/se...{{dropped}}

Finding the median
Hi just a quick question in which I must use the "function and return" part of R. If I was asked to define a function called "median" where the function has a single argument x and returns the median value of a vector. How would I go about saying the median = element x in terms of n (say (n + 1)/2 or whatever it would be) if there is an even amount of elements, or x in terms

How i can demonstrate in R that the limit for x-->infinite of (1+1/x)^x is equal to "e"? 2.) if i have a vector of values how can i create a function that, applied to my vector, give me "median", "mean", "Var" and "length" togheter?
