ADM v. homemade code
Hi, I am attempting to implement Answering Machine Detect and have also played with using BackgroundDetect instead. Does anyone recommend one over the other? Here is the code I am using for the BackgroundDetect method (from voip-info.org). Thanks. speex over radio and homemade hardware
...team can use to transmit and receive data over a radio link between a chase car and the solar car its self. As of now I do not know the exact specifications of the internal hardware of the car, what I do know is they are looking at transmitting across a 2400baud connection, the unit in the car is homemade from our labs here. From what I understand it can be programmed quite easily. What I've was wondering is will this speex will satisfy my needs, naturally with some modification to fit our hardware? Oh I should also mention that the setup in the chase car will probably be a linux or win32 la...

speex over radio and homemade hardware
> but it isn't going to be quite so low-bitrate when you > have IP (or some other) packets encapsulating it. Most packet systems, such as PPP and SLIP, want at least 9600 baud to play ball. Traditionally, low bandwidth systems like those are just open streams. The protocols built on top of those - old stalwarts like YModem/G, Kermit, and so forth - do admittedly generally chunk

Observer and Plugin conflict...
Hi fellas, I have setup the acts_as_authenticated plugin and activated the UserObserver to send activation emails. I also have a homemade security plugin which adds methods to ActiveRecord::Base like let_read and let_write. On the server start, those two enter in conflict because the Observer does something with the User model but it can''t find the let_read and the let_write methods yet. It looks like the plugin is n...

Cross-validation in R
...e: (1) how the $delta is computed in the cv.glm? In the home-made version, I simply use ((Yobs - Ypred)^2)/n. The equation might be correct because the mean is similar. (2) in the cv.glm, I have the impression the system is using glm0.dmi that was generated using all the data points whereas in my homemade version I only use the "test" database. I am confused if the cv.glm generates new glm models for each simulation of if it uses the one provided? (3) is the cv.glm sampling using replacement = TRUE or not? Thanks in advance. If...while...or what else??
...with a quite silly question I think, but I hope you can answer me... That is, I've got some problems in using the if and while conditions in a loop. Substantially, I want to select rows in a dataset depending on an index variable (suppose it ranges from 1 to 5), so to make a specific analysis (homemade of course) on thie new dataset. Mi first tought has been to do a double loop like this: for i in 1:5{ for j in (i+1):5{ data = dataset[(variable==i) | (variable==j),] ##analysis ##analysis } } This way I should select all the couples only once (gaining in efficiency I hope). The fact is that thi...

Mongrel + Apache 1.3 + OpenBSD
Hello, I want to install a mongrel rails server with an apache in fronthead, all that on OpenBSD. But OpenBSD is released with a homemade Apache 1.3.29 patched by the OpenBSD team. I really want to keep this version of apache and I don''t want to change it to Apache 2.x (because of the security and the license but it''s not the point here). But for having mongrel, it has to be with a Apache 2.x because the mod_proxy...

Homemade packages.
I've recently installed R-1.4.0 and I'm having the devil's own time trying to install a home-made package. As far as I can tell, I'm doing the same things that I did previously, under 1.3.1, but somehow everything goes haywire. (Quite possibly I'm simply mis-remembering what I did before, but I can't for the life of me figure out what to change). A toy example of what I

How can I have new users/groups to include posixAccount/posixGroup schema automatically?
...Already. > at the moment, how the attributes get into AD is up to you, use ADUC, Time-consuming, requires available Win7 machine. In short - not an option. > samba-tool Doesn't work, as evidently demonstrated recently in the list. > or write your own scripts. The problem with any homemade script is that it isn't portable, and only go as far, as the script writer's understanding of the things at hand. My personal understanding of the AD schema is very limited. I could throw something together, but in reality, I'd rather not do anything like that myself. All that being s...

Linux choices ?
First of all, My apologies for this maybe slight OT post, but I have so much confidence and read so much good replies on this list, that I am still asking my question. I''m looking for a linux distribution to use on our school''s homemade routers. The routers are small miniITX based systems with 2 network interfaces. I added a 4 port D-Link network card in some cases, when I don''t need more than 3 pors, I simply add a realtek based card. We have 3 main sites, wich are connected through a 802.11b link. One of the 3 sites w...

Have 2 DomU share a same Logical Volume
Hi xeners, I am trying to have 2 DomU share a single Logical Volume. I need that at least one of the DomU has read-write access to the LV. I have tried, but up to now, it only works if both DomU have read-only writes to the LV. That''s a problem for me, because I wanted to set up Nginx on a DomU, and Rails on another one, and have Nginx get read access to an LV that would hold the public

Help : glm p-values for a factor predictor
Hello, i am a newby on R and i am trying to make a backward selection on a binomial-logit glm on a large dataset (69000 lines for 145 predictors). After 3 days working, the stepAIC function did not terminate. I do not know if that is normal but i would like to try computing a "homemade" backward with a repeated glm ; at each step, the predictor with the max pvalue would be excluded until reaching a set of 20 predictors for example. My question is about the factor predictors with several levels. R provides only the pvalues for each level whereas i need an overall pvalu...

I''m not at all sure how to handle this, and I know I should know, hehe. I would appreciate any help getting my br...

Calling "confint.glm" from within another function
On July 12, 2004 Spencer Graves wrote an email describing essentially the same issue that I would like help on: calling the confint function from within another homemade function. Because he provided many good examples of the problem, I will not reproduce them here but will instead refer readers to the original posting: http://www.mail-archive.com/r-help at stat.math.ethz.ch/msg23826.html It is not clear from the replies to his posting how he managed to solve t...

I can get a real version Thursday, but I just wanted to test this trial tonight. This isn't a homemade CD; it's a Microsoft CD that came with my schoolbook and a Product Key even.
