disable automatic mapping of homefolder to Z:
folks
I know this is most likely something on the W2k/XP client side but I cannot
find anything about it and I'm sure some
of you guys have found a way around this.
When I log on to a SMB domain W2k/XP clients automatically maps the current
user's homefolder to Z:. I wanna
disable that but I cannot see where. Do you guys all just put up with that
or has anyone found a way to at least change
the letter to H: ? I know it has to do with the way the [homes] share
creates users' homefolders on the fly in samba
but shouldn't there be a way on the cli...

Rsyncd and Environmental Paths
...read only = no
list = yes
auth users = wendell
secrets file = /etc/rsyncd.secrets
But rsync doesn't seem to interpret the $USER. I've also tried this with $HOME and '~' with no luck. I want to be able to back up to the folder 'backup' that will be in the users homefolder when a user is backing up remotely to the rsync daemon.
How can I do this?

"homes" vs "home"
> What is the homes share on ?
I'm not quite sure what this is asking. The paths are of the form /data/homefolder/<users>, on a mounted local disk.

The homes section is as follows:
[homes]
comment = Home directories
browseable = yes
writable = yes
create mask = 0600
force create mode = 0600
directory mask = 0700
force directory mode = 0700

Remove default homeshare
Hi
I'm running a samba-server as fileserver on a Windows 2003 PDC. The users
are create on the WinServer, and the homefolders are defined in the AD and
stored on the sambaserver //server/homes/%user%. But samba still creates
the default share with the same name as the user. How di I disable that. I
have # everything that's named something like home and etc..

Disk quotas for Sendmail
Hi,
CentOS 5.x, Sendmail 8.13.8.
I would like to start using disk quotas on my Sendmail server, and optimally
they should be configurable by user or group. How can this be done? (I tried
to google, but no success.)

Rsync with non-english characters in filenames?
Hi,
I am trying to use rsync to migrate homefolders from one server to
another. For this I use:
> rsync --rsh="ssh -l root" -vaz beaucent.ling.umu.se:/export/home/ .
Which works fine until I get to some files where the user has,
unfortunatelly, used a non-ascii character in the file name:

samba-3.4.7 & access to share from win7
...gs to his primary group defined in samba+openldap pdc. If they want to access the share named according to their primary group (with permissions rwxrwx---), they only get "acces denied" error, I can't understand why it works from win-XP,2003 but not from win 7 .... other shares ("homefolders" - rwx------ and "common shares" - rwxrwxrwx) work without problem ....
I have tried this (*) as well but still no luck ...

"homes" vs "home"
When enabling user homes (via the [homes] section), I see the following shares:
\\server\<username<http://>>
\\server\homes<http://>
Both of which point to the user directory. Is it possible to have a third:
\\server\home<http://>
Which does the same? \\server\homes<http://> is great and all, but I feel that the plural is a bit of a mislabel.

use backend RID if you dont need access with a windows account to a shared home folder. ( cifs or nfs )
you use a dedicated local "linuxAdmin" for maintanace. ( often the first created user in linux )
use backend AD if you do need access with ssh for example or shared homefolders.
3 server or more, all server where ssh or access to a server with a shared folder is needed, use backend AD.
adviced is all servers with file shares.
Optional, mix this with RID, for example for a dedicated print server, or proxy server (auth).

Acls
...If you followed "domain users" is primary group.
3b) Use the security groups you set as primary group.
Both then there own advantage and flaws..
5) Now you can add the needed stuff like.
Like set the profile path to ?\\hostname.internal.example.com\profiles\%username%?
Like set the HomeFolder (Driveletter: ) to ?\\hostname.internal.example.com\users\%username%?
Use : getfacl
DONT use : chmod/chown, it kills your Acls.
Per example, if you set a right and you have backend AD on the member,
And you didnt add the GID to the group when you're using and setting ACLs.
Use getfacl an...
