Rsync and snapshot backups
...tly using rsync to backup home directories using this:
rsync -avx --delete --backup --backup-dir=/u1/home.bak /u0/home/
/u1/home >> ${log}
I'm trying to move to snapshot backups using this:
rsync -avx --delete --backup --backup-dir=/u1/home.bak
--link-dest=../home.current /u0/home/ /u1/home_${datetime} >> ${log}
This works except I no longer get deleted source files moved to
backup-dir. Is there a way to get this behavior with the link-dest
feature?
Thank you,
Steve

extra characters after mailbox names
After installing alpha3, when I view a list of my IMAP mailboxes in Pine
4.64 on Linux, several of the mailbox names are followed by odd
characters: ., ~, and _. So the list of mailboxes looks like:
INBOX
saved_
sent-mail~
Biz
Service.
Home_
and so forth. The distribution of the characters remains the same
throughout the Pine session, but is different every time I restart Pine.
It doesn't happen in Pine 4.63 or any other client, but I associate it
with Dovecot rather than Pine because it started exactly when I upgraded

Is it possible to evaluate a string as a parameter name?
Hi,
I''m looking to combine a couple of fact names with the value of a class
parameter to create and lookup the resulting fact''s value. Is that
possible? For example, my class will take the parameter "my_default_nic"
from beyond. So I know that as long as $my_default_nic exists on the
client, then so will facts like macaddress_<NIC>, netmask_<NIC>,

anyone using generate()?
I was playing around with the generate() function and was wondering if
anyone was making us of it.
The current way I''m attempting to use it is to determine what the homedir of
a given user is.
I have:
---
$homedir = generate("/bin/sh", "-c", "grep ^${name} /etc/passwd | cut -d:
-f6")
---
which returns what I expect it to return except that it preserves the

Music on Hold
Does anybody have a good source for hold music? I can see a number of
companies on the web that sell royalty-free MOH, but they don't all provide
samples. The customer service desk has requested "calming, not sleeping,
but calming" and "this is a high-tech company, so make it 'techie' [sic]".
Thanks,

Motherboard for home zfs/solaris file server
Hello,
I am building a home file server and am looking for an ATX mother board
that will be supported well with OpenSolaris (onboard SATA controller,
network, graphics if any, audio, etc). I decided to go for Intel based
boards (socket LGA 775) since it seems like power management is better
supported with Intel processors and power efficiency is an important
factor. After reading several
