Choosing the right domain
...... and one second question (sorry):
What about the dhpcd?
At present we use fixed MAC:IP:Name matches and the DHCP writes
corresponding DNS records into bind. I am afraid we can't use such setup
anymore, too, can we?
TIA.

W2K3 Server + RAS + Samba 3.0 Domain
...ser on the Domain, but from the logs it?s not even trying to.
Of course i asked google and searched this list but the closest thing i
found was about Win2000 RAS ... and it was a post about that not working
either.
Question: Anyone ever gotten this to work ? With a 2K or 2K3 Server ?

Adding acls for Unix Users
...:
setfacl -m u:www-data:r-x <object>
on the linux CLI or does that imply any future nightmares with Windows
acls, too?
Any other best practise to get the issue done?
Sorry, but still a little scared to break something ;).

--move instaed of --delete
Hi,
I have set up daily backup using rsync to collect the data and
afterwards I use afio to write the data to tape.
I do:
$RSYNC -avbu --backup-dir=$PART/$HOST/old -e ssh --exclude-from $EXCLUDE
root@$HOST:/ $PART/$HOST > $LOG/$HOST-$DATE.log
to sync files.
Since the tape capacity is limited I exclued the /$PART/$HOST/old dirs,
form the afio call. These are backuped separately on weekly

Feedback: DNS workaround Samba 4 vs own zone files
Hi,
just a few words on my s4 experiences, hoping they will be of
assistance for someone - or bashed by anyone to make me reconsider
my workaround ;).
Because of ubuntu 14.04 I had a closer look into samba 4 last
weeks/days.
I am administrating some private home LANs mostly driven by one low
cost/consuming servers ubuntu/debian (DHCP, DNS, LAMP and samba) for
some of my friends.

Hi,
since some weeks I have a little but annoying problem I want to solve
within comming summer break.
I am using samba 2.2.11 (debian woody, will be sarge after summer
break). It is running in PDC mode and offering file and print services.
Up and running smoothly for years now. It is using standard auth against
/etc/samba/smbpasswd
