rsync questions
Hi all: I got basic rsync working (not server mode). Basically it went to another server via ssh, backed up subdireactories and stored on the local server. But I am trying to use the feature of "exclude" and could not get it working rigjt. I am trying to back up /export/home/* (all of users) on another machine but exclude a certain types of files. here is one of my tested exclude

Some questions about theoretical gluster failures.
...es? ie can any gluster node replace a mountpoint node and does that happen transparently? (I haven't tested this). - can you intermix distributed and mirrored volumes? This is of particular interest since some of our users want to have replicated data and some don't care. [Bug 5124] Parallelize the rsync run using multiple threads and/or connections
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5124 --- Comment #12 from Paulo Marques <paulo.marques at bitfile.pt> --- Using multiple connections also helps when you have LACP network links, which are relatively common in data center setups to have both redundancy and increased bandwidth. If you have two 1Gbps links aggregated, you can only use 1Gbps using rsync, but you could use 2Gbps if

Stale NFS file handle
Hi, I'm a bit curious of error messages of the type "remote operation failed: Stale NFS file handle". All clients using the file system use Gluster Native Client, so why should stale nfs file handle be reported? Regards, /jon -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... temporal simulation
Hello, I am new to R and was wondering if anybody would be able to advice me on the following query. Is there any package available to generate a mixed Poisson process, temporal data, using R? If anybody has accomplished this before or has any advice I would appreciate it. Regards, Elaine Hand -- Elaine Hand Department of Community Health & General Practice Trinity College Dublin

GlusterFS performance
Hello! I have GlusterFS installation with parameters: - 4 servers, connected by 1Gbit/s network (760-800 Mbit/s by iperf) - Distributed-replicated volume with 4 bricks and 2x4 redundancy formula. - Replicated volume with 2 bricks and 2x2 formula. I found some trouble: if I try to copy huge amount of files (94000 files, 3Gb size), this process takes terribly long time (from 20 to 40 minutes). I

cannot create a new volume with a brick that used to be part of a deleted volume?
Greetings, I'm running v3.3.0 on Fedora16-x86_64. I used to have a replicated volume on two bricks. This morning I deleted it successfully: ######## [root at farm-ljf0 ~]# gluster volume stop gv0 Stopping volume will make its data inaccessible. Do you want to continue? network copy performance is poor (rsync) - debugging suggestions?
Hi, I do have two centos 6.6 servers. With a "performance optimized" rsync I get an speed of 15 - 20 MB/s The options I use are: rsync -aHAXxv --numeric-ids --progress -e "ssh -T -c arcfour -o Compression=no -x" If I copy files by smb to/from the servers I do get 60 - 80 MB/s, a dd (r/w) on the storages attached gives 90 MB/s on the 1Gbit ISCSI (Source Server) and up to

kernel parameters for improving gluster writes on millions of small writes (long)
This is a continuation of my previous posts about improving write perf when trapping millions of small writes to a gluster filesystem. I was able to improve write perf by ~30x by running STDOUT thru gzip to consolidate and reduce the output stream. Today, another similar problem, having to do with yet another bioinformatics program (which these days typically handle the 'short reads' that

"Too many levels of symbolic links" with glusterfs automounting
I set up a 3.3 gluster volume for another sysadmin and he has added it to his cluster via automount. It seems to work initially but after some time (days) he is now regularly seeing this warning: "Too many levels of symbolic links" $ df: `/share/gl': Too many levels of symbolic links when he tries to traverse the mounted filesystems. I've been using gluster with static mounts

computational capacity of Linux network
Hi, This is not an R question per ce, but I feel like this is a right community to ask it. As a part of our work we run a lot of non-interactive computational jobs. To increase the throughput we would like to distribute the load over the entire network and we are looking at Linux network as a platform. Ideally we would like to be able to submit a job to the network, rather than to a computer, and

Very slow directory listing and high CPU usage on replicated volume
Hi all, I am having problems with painfully slow directory listings on a freshly created replicated volume. The configuration is as follows: 2 nodes with 3 replicated drives each. The total volume capacity is 5.6T. We would like to expand the storage capacity much more, but first we need to figure this problem out. Soon after loading up about 100 MB of small files (about 300kb each), the

setting up a "server"
Hi, I have the install guide and the admin guide....nothing in either that I can see from the contents pages tells me how to create the first "server" ( I assume that is what I have to do?) Is there another doc Im missing? or a good URL for a howto on a redhat based machine? Also from what I can see the "free" version is cli only? and there is no virtual (vmware) appliance?

Slow read performance
Help please- I am running 3.3.1 on Centos using a 10GB network. I get reasonable write speeds, although I think they could be faster. But my read speeds are REALLY slow. Executive summary: On gluster client- Writes average about 700-800MB/s Reads average about 70-80MB/s On server- Writes average about 1-1.5GB/s Reads average about 2-3GB/s Any thoughts? Here are some additional details:
