Samba share authentication using SSSD
Hi, Here is my desired configuration: An external LDAP server, Samba 4.1.8 (not configured as a member server or as a domain controller), and SSSD configured with the external LDAP server. Authentication locally and via ssh works fine using pam_sss.so. When attempting to authenticate a share on windows using an LDAP users credentials, the request fails with NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED. I'd like

LDAP authentication without Samba schema
Hi, I am in a position where I would like to have LDAP authentication for CIFS shares, but cannot modify the LDAP server. The LDAP server is Open Directory and does not have the Samba schema included or configured. I only have read only access, a keytab, and possibly a read only bind user. Is this possible? I have attempted to get this working in various ways. I tried enabling plaintext auth and

net ads join fails when specifying domain controller
I am seeing in some folks Active Directory environments where specifying a domain controller with the net ads join command fails. It will work when not specifying a domain controller. For instance: net -k ads join FOO.COM -S DC.FOO.COM # fails net -k ads join FOO.COM # works The fail message is: Failed to join domain: failed to lookup DC info for domain 'FOO.COM' over rpc: Logon

Changing ownership of files on Windows (net rpc rights?)
Hello, I am unable to change ownership of Samba shares on Windows. It makes no difference if Samba is a PDC or if it is a member server in an Active Directory. I am running Samba 4.1.9 on FreeBSD 9.2 with ZFS. I can easily change ownership locally on the FreeBSD box, however, when trying to do it from Windows it errors out with access is denied. I've attempted to use net rpc rights grant

Stymied with samba vs openldap SSL ("Failed to issue the StartTLS instruction...")
I know this is something which should have a simple fix but I'm failing to see it somehow. I'm moving samba service between a couple of FreeBSD systems (9.3 to 10.2), and I'm stuck on getting samba on the new machine to connect to our openldap server over ssl - frustrating since I've been running samba+ldap for 15 years or so; feel sure I'm missing something basic!

UPN authentication for windows 2003 server
Hi, When samba is joined to a 2k3 domain, UPN authentication does not work. It works using smbclient, but not from a workstation that is not part of the domain. I can reproduce this easily and provide logs and tcpdump's if necessary. The same problem does not occur when samba is joined to 2k8 or 2k12 domains. Is this by design? Am I missing something? - John -------------- next part
