memdisk boot failure
Hi,
I'm trying to boot Feature Tool 2.08 (free download from
http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm) from a pen drive
via memdisk. QEMU can boot the pen drive all right, my ThinkPad
can't:

Possible regression in 3.83
Hey all,
I recently updated to syslinux 3.83, I am getting machines rebooting or
locking after loading PC DOS. Most notably with Hitachi's Disk Fitness
Test (http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm#DFT) Version 4.16.
At first it was a trickle, and now it seems I am having the issue with
more hardware. I downgraded to syslinux 3.81, and everything is happy
again.
The Current hardware that seems to be repeatable across several machines
is a Dell Optiplex GX270....

memdisk image problems on shuttle hardware
...essage out even though I
don't have the stats right now.
I am having a problem with memdisk with a lot of shuttle computers, but
also affects a variety of other hardware (low though, 5%? less?).
The image that I can most reliably test against is the Hitachi Drive
fitness Test.
It boots the image normally, then spits out Operating System not found
(or some such, basically the image loads but doesn't work)
I think I saw at one point that an ancient version of syslinux/memdisk
worked fine (2x era), but I am not p...

Booting floppy images with syslinux
...ctly. Now
I'm trying to move these images to an USB pendrive, and have a
problem, since syslinux can't boot these images directly. Is there
anything I could try to get these to boot?
One of such images that's giving me the problem is the Hitachi's Drive

Sector size on 7K3000 drives?
Hi al
Does anyone here that knows if the new 7K3000 drives from Hitachi uses 4k sectors or not? The docs say "Sector size (variable, Bytes/sector): 512", but since it''s variable, any idea what it might be? I''m planning to replace 7x3+1 drives on this system to try to get some free space on some full VDEVs. If the drives are in fact 4k sector drives, will it be possible

Best 1.5TB drives for consumer RAID?
Which consumer-priced 1.5TB drives do people currently recommend?
I had zero read/write/checksum errors so far in 2 years with my trusty old Western Digital WD7500AAKS drives, but now I want to upgrade to a new set of drives that are big, reliable and cheap.
As of Jan 2010 it seems the price sweet spot is the 1.5TB drives.
As I had a lot of success with Western Digital drives I thought I would

ZFS Usage in Warehousing (lengthy intro)
Dear all,
we''re currently looking forward to restructure our hardware environment for
our datawarehousing product/suite/solution/whatever.
We''re currently running the database side on various SF V440''s attached via
dual FC to our SAN backend (EMC DMX3) with UFS. The storage system is
(obviously in a SAN) shared between many systems. Performance is mediocre
