Is shorewall comptible with hipac?
Hi all, http://www.hipac.org/index.htm I have just discovered this great project. It seems it surpasses standard netfilter in performance. The documentation states they are more or less compatible with standard netfilter, but anybody has tested if it is compatible with shorewall? Tom, have you? Regards -- Jaime...

High speed traffic filtering
...full inspection, by unloading connection tracking modules. I believe netfilter without connection tracking, might be much more efficient (We don''t need connection tracking actually, since we are only filtering HTTP traffic from the others traffics at this point) 2) Replace iptables by nf-hipac for packet filtering. Have you guys any experience with nf-hipac ? (http://www.hipac.org/) I would be really thanksfull to hear of any solutions / workarounds / optimization to keep our linux firewalls handling growing traffic :-) Thanks ! CBQ troubles, processor overload
Hey there everyone, I appreciated everyone''s help so much in the last few posts I decided to post some more! :) We implemented our bandwidth management machine on the network last week and everything looked great. After looking at it today, anything past the machine is losing major packets and the latency is high. I''m using RedHat 9.0 on a Pentium 4 2.8ghz with 512mb of ram.

Iptables matching on IFB
Hey folks, I stumbled across the Mastershaper project ( http://www.mastershaper.org/ ) but I have a little problem: I wanted to shape the traffic coming from the router itself aswell as coming from the LAN behind the router, for that task I need IMQ, but with IMQ iptables-(layer7)-matching is not possible. Now I''ve talked with the programmer and he said the following: >The problem is

...oo by connection tracking. You could prevent that using the abovementioned target. If connection tracking is the problem, you're probably better off asking for more details in netfilter-devel@lists.netfilter.org. If you will have lots of iptables filter rules, you should check out http://www.hipac.org/ (if you haven't already). cheers, Bart

Memory consumption
Hope everyone had a festive easter weekend! Is it possible to monitor how much memory iptables or kernel consumes while processing packets as they go through the firewall? The same question goes for having a large number of routes in the routing table (>700). A few reasons for asking, but the two major ones are from the following situations: 1. We provide 420 flats in a complex with
