Manipulating dates
Hello, Given a vector of characters, or factors, denoting the date in the following way: 28/03/2000, is there a method of 1) Computing the earliest of these dates; 2) Using this as a base, then converting all the other dates into merely the number of days after this minimum date Many thanks Richard Hillary

download extremely slow
I have been trying to download the latest version to my Macbook X version 10.6.8 from my institutions mirror http://cran.cnr.Berkeley.edu Usually is only takes minutes, but regardless of the browser or where I connect to the internet I have been unable to download because it would take upwards 2 days according to the download dialogue box. colored PCA biplot
Hi- I'm trying to make my PCA (princomp) colored. In my csv excel sheet, I have the first column numbered according to the groupings I want to assign to the PCA. I've played around with trying to set this first column as the color vector, but haven't had any luck. Any suggestions? Thanks, Hillary [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

GAM question
I am trying to use R to do a weighted GAM with PA (presence/random) as the response variable (Y, which is a 0 or a 1) and ASPECT (values go from 0-3340), DEM (from 1500-3300), HLI (from 0-5566), PLAN (from -3 to 3), PROF (from -3 to 3), SLOPE (from 100-500) and TRI (from 0-51) as predictor variables (Xs). I need to weight each observation by its WO value (from 0.18 to 0.98). I have specified the

Add interpunct (dot) symbol to axis label?
I'm having problems creating an axis label for a plot. y_label = expression(paste(plain('CPUE '),plain('(fish'),plain('x'),plain('h'^{-1}),plain(')'))) I'd like to replace the "x" with an interpunct symbol (dot). Any suggestions how to do this? Thanks in advance. [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

...t reports the time when it is dialed. I searched the threads and it seems like this should work... Here's what's in my extensions.conf: exten => 400,1,Answer() exten => 400,n,Wait,1 exten => 400,n,SayUnixTime(,EST5EDT,) exten => 400,n,Playback(tt-weasels) [BTW, tt-weasels is hillarious! ;-) Props to whoever made that. ] When I call the extension, it answers and immediately falls through to tt-weasels, which I hear fine. It's like SayUnixTime gets jumped over or returns nothing (very quickly.) I checked and the "at" sound which is used by the default SayUnixTime...

...difference in the actual startup speed. If anything, Windows seems to boot a bit faster, and the CPU utilization seems to settle down pretty quickly, after a reboot. Which kind of makes sense, actually, now that I'm aware of the fast startup "feature", and I find it absolutely hillarious. See: if Windows was really hibernating, then after it boots up the dumb thing obviously wants to immediately kick off every frigging last scheduled task it has, since it probably came due during the time the whole bloody thing was off. I always had a laugh looking at virt-manager showing...

Changing the bitrate (down) of an ogg file
Hi. Sorry if this is the wrong list - a pointer to the right would be appreciated. I have a number of Ogg files, that have a VBR bitrate of approx. 256 kbps. I have bought a portabel Ogg player (iRiver iFP 795) that unfortunately only support bitrates up to approx. 225 kbps. So my question is, if there is a tool to change the bitrate down to e.g. 220 kbps. I know I can do this with sox, or

CentOS 6.3 packages updates options without upgrading.
Thanks very much, understood. so, it seems, upgrading selected packages is probably going to be fine except where the compatibility matters where it would break all kinds of things. Something of such nature of request would need to be internally tested by simply updating the selected packages, test the applications previously running on 6.3 w/ these few selected 6.8 packages updates. It seems,
