Custom Form Builder Help
Hello All,
We use a different custom form builder for our app, but I wanted to
use facebooker''s typeahead widget in side the other form builder.
I don''t know much about form builders, but I created a file in lib/
doing this:

It works great, except that the id''s and class names get messed up.
Instead of school_name, I get

plans for lenny-cran? can I help?
Hi,
I'm running a highschool network with Debian etch and the etch-cran
"backports" on top of it. Being bio-informatics, the newest R is essential to
us.
I did some upgrading experiments; switching to ubuntu is not
an option, neither is fetching the sid debs for r.
When trying to upgrade from etch to lenny with etch-cran packages installed
things block on etch-cran dependencies.

NOOB: I need some Ruby/Rails Advice...
I''ve been doing lots of research about different languages and
frameworks for a project I''m planning. Your help in deciding what to do
would be of great assistance.
I used to program in highschool for a couple years. I haven''t done much
since then and I know i''m pretty useless as a programmer. I know that
if i put my head to it, I could muddle my way

Auto-Create Directory
I have a samba server set so that each user in a windows 2003
active directory can have their own personal, private share. I
would like to know how to set up Samba so that their directory
is created automatically, rather than me creating 1300
directories on the linux server.
I cannot use pam_mkhomedir.so because 'security = ads' in
smb.conf and 'encryption = yes' must be

sync and I'm just unable to find it in the documentaion (I read through
almost all of the documentaion available on the samba.org website).
Or maybe you can provide a better solution to my problem. I'm in the
process of setting up a linux file server for my old highschools web
design and typeing class. The way I have it set up so far is that each
user gets a unix username and a entry added to the smbpasswd file. Using
a litle perl program I hacked together (toad.net/~cshafer/addstudent).
Is there a better way to do this (ldap maybe?)?
Thanks,

Applications used in the Rails video?
Hi all,
I just watched the rail video:
http://www.rubyonrails.org/media/video/rails_take2_with_sound.mov
I am just curious. I can tell that the video was done on a Mac, but I
cannot tell which applications were used for editing the code, and for
interfacing with MySQL database.
As far as editing source code, I normally use BBEdit (I''ve used it since
1994), but the editor used in

Confusion about linear prediction within flac
Hi,
I'm researching lossless compression for a highschool mathematics
research essay and am fairly confused about how the linear prediction
coefficients are solved for within flac.
As far as I understand, Levinson Durbin Recursion is used to solve for
these coefficients, however, what I don't understand is what the
toeplitz matrix is composed of. I found sources using samples from

Adding percentage to Pie Charts (was (no subject))
Have you read the books by Cleveland?
His experiments show that most people do better estimating things and
comparing things on a linear scale rather than looking at angles and
areas (also see

With a dot chart you can set the axis to go from 0 to the total of all

R and Excel disagreement - Goal Seek versus uniroot
Dear friends - occurring in Windows R2.6.2
I am modeling physical chemistry in collaboration with a friend who has
preferred working in Excel. I used uniroot, and find a solution to a two
buffer problem in acid-base chemistry which I believe is physiologically
sensible. Using "goal seek" in Excel my friend found another plausible
root, quite close to zero, and a plot of the function

File Permissions
I have set up Samba so that all users on my small network can read from my
one of my Linux shares as well as write to that share.
However, when user A saves a file to that share, user B can't open it -- and
vice versa. How can I set up samba so that all files written to that share can
be read, modified, and deleted by all users?
Thanks in advance for an answer to this question.

"Flavors of Security Through Obscurity"
This was posted not too long ago on sci.crypt... Enjoy... I think the most
relevant information is near the top, but it''s all quite good... :-)

There is no intrinsic difference between algorithm and data, the
same information can be viewed as data in one context and as
algorithm in another. Why then do so many people claim that

Design flaw? - num_processors, accept/close
Rails instances themselves are almost always single-threaded, whereas
Mongrel, and it''s acceptor, are multithreaded.
In a situation with long-running Rails pages this presents a problem for
mod_proxy_balancer.
If num_processors is greater than 1 ( default: 950 ), then Mongrel will
gladly accept incoming requests and queue them if its rails instance is
currently busy. So even
