[fdo] Just an idea on addressing cross platform HIGs
I just read this article (http://www.wpdfd.com/editorial/wpd0504review.htm) ad noticed some points about "Mac users VS The Gimp interface" and some "not conformant to the Mac HIG specification" things. Considering this interview (http://news.netcraft.com/archives/2004/04/28/interview_with_miguel_de_icaza_cofounder_of_gnome_ximian_and_mono.html) and this article (http://news.com.com/2100-1032-5201325.html) I made some considerations about interface portability, Microso...

Extremely long creat64 latencies on higly
Thanks Michael. Here is my (slightly corrected) version of the script, after I''ve done a bit of investment in the dtrace manual (always knew it''s powerful, but it''s more than that...). While it appears to run, and when I tried lowering the limit I started getting results, I''d appreciate it if you could please explain the actions attached to the last few probes

Design changes are done in Fedora
...ng I'm also not a fan of Gnome3, and prefer MATE. However, I believe the new interface provided by Gnome3 is both well thought out and based on the results of research on Human-Computer interactions. Gnome has published their GNOME Human Interface Guidelines here: https://developer.gnome.org/hig-book/3.2/ https://developer.gnome.org/hig/stable/ The idea is to have a uniform and consistent interface that is intuitive to all potential users. You'll probably agree with me that UNIX/Linux interfaces tend to be extremely inconsistent between programs, and even between elements of a displ...

TaskBarIcon in OS X
Is the Wx:TaskBarIcon supported under OS X? I can''t seem to get it working. My code works under Windows, but not OS X. I thought it was something I was doing, so I tried the bigdemo.rb sample and that doesnt'' seem to like OS X either. I''m running OS X 10.5 with wxRuby 1.9.5 gem and ruby 1.8.6. -dave -- David Grandinetti (315) 569 2594

Is gnome-devel-docs supposed to work with devhelp?
I just installed gnome-devel-docs with the objective of having a local copy of the gnome hig-book and now that I have it installed I don't know how to use it. I had assumed that it would show up in devhelp but it doesn't. What I have is a bunch of XML files in /usr/share/gnome/help/hig-book/C, and when I try to view one with firefox it tells me "This XML file does not appear...

Hig cpu-usage on 3.0.24 on 64bit Debian etch
...the printing system on a Debian Etch 64 bit version Intel dual-core system My main problem is, that everything works just fine, there are no serious errors in the log files, even if i step the log level up to level 3. What happens is that the processes belonging to the guest-account have occasional high cpu-values, up to 10-60%, then they slow down again, but there are many of them and all in all that gives too much cpu-usage. File transfers, printing etc. doesn't slow the machine down at all. The documentation says, that the guest-account should be defined, although I have "guest ok =...

mixed-effects model with two fixed effects: interaction
Dear all, In a greenhouse experiment we tested performance of 4 different species (B,H,P,R) under 3 different water levels in 10 replications. As response variable e.g. the number of emerging sprouts were measured on three dates. A simple Anova considering every measurement date separately shows a higly significant effect of species and moisture (and partly the interaction of both). The mixed-effects model with species and moisture shows a highly significant effect of species and moisture as well. However, when I included the interaction the t-values of the species dropped strongly and the SE in...

Is it possible to implement the propensity score methodology (Rosenbaum et al, 1983) in such situations? Any ideas/suggestions would be higly appreciated. External BRI - is there such thing?

I am considering running Asterisk on a MacOS X machine, and, even if I opt for Linux on an i486 machine, I'd still like to go external. Any comments on this would be higly appreciated. Yours, Francis
