printing via samba w/ cups server
...emented a new server. Users print through the
linux server from their windows desktop machines.
OLD server:
-samba 2.0.7, which uses lpd
NEW server:
-samba 2.2.3, which uses cups
The old server can print to the printer (Savin 2545 pcl) just fine.
The new server prints all sorts of garbage and hieroglyphics to
that printer.
I'll cut out the relevant pieces of smb.conf for you:
OLD:
printing = bsd
print command = lpr -r -P%p %s
NEW:
printing = cups
print command = lpr-cups -P %p -o raw %s -r
I KNOW that lpr-cups is configured fine. I can get rid of
"-r" for...

garbled dialog fonts, band-in-a-box, mac
I am a newish Mac user. I have band-in-a-box 2008, which ran fine under
wine in Linux.
It seems to run fine under wine in os x, except that the fonts are wrong in
several places, most notably in dialog windows. The font actually used is
some kind of symbolic font, so it looks like hieroglyphics. It might be one
of biab's fonts as some of the symbols are musical, but there are enough
not-obviously-musical glyphs that I can't be sure.
Any hints on how to get legible fonts?

numeric operations w/ lists
Hello all,
X is a list of 20 lists, and each individual list has 65 elements.
Y is a list of 65 elements.
WANT: subtract Y from each of the 20 lists in X.
Here's what I tried and the error messages:
> X - rep(Y, 20)
Error in X - rep(Y 20) : non-numeric argument to binary operator
I tried several methods w/o success. Any suggestions kindly
appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave

spoolss causing driver issues
Hi,
I have a problem. I upgraded from samba 2.0.7 to 2.2.3 recently, and
one of my 2 printers have driver issues.
Whenever I print to SAVIN 2545, I get binary and hieroglyphics, so
I assumed that it's driver-related. I can print to our HP8100 just fine.
Some machines were still configured with:
"\\server\savin", LAN Manager Printer
These machines STILL print fine.
However, if one DELETEs the printer, and re-adds it, it becomes:
"Samba Printer Por...
