Interpreting the result of 'cutree' from hclust/heatmap.2
I have the following code that perform hiearchical clustering and plot them in heatmap. __ library(gplots) set.seed(538) # generate data y <- matrix(rnorm(50), 10, 5, dimnames=list(paste("g", 1:10, sep=""), paste("t", 1:5, sep=""))) # the actual data is much larger that the above # perform hiearchical...

New versions: mvbutils and debug packages
Dear R users New versions of the 'mvbutils' and 'debug' packages are now available on CRAN, both in source form and as precompiled binaries. 'mvbutils' offers the following (as well as many miscellaneous utilities): ? hiearchical, searchable project organization, with workspaces switchable inside a single R session, and objects in "ancestor" projects always visible in R from "child" projects; ? function editing (interface to text editors), with multiple simultaneous edits, an "unfrozen" R...

Hierarchical Clustering Using Mutual Information
Dear R-helpers, Is there somebody who knows if R has already a build in function for Hierarchical Clustering which uses Mutual Information as proximity measure? Many thanks and best regards, J. --------------------------------- [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Question regarding significance of a covariate in a coxme survival model
Hi, I am running a Cox Mixed Effects Hazard model using the library coxme. I am trying to model time to onset (age_sym1) of thought problems (e.g. hearing voices) (sym1). As I have siblings in my dataset, I have decided to account for this by including a random effect for family (famid). My covariate of interest is Mother's diagnosis where a 0 is bipolar, 1 is control, and 2 is major

...t umd.edu> 09/07/09 9:23 PM >>> John, your question is confusing. After reading it twice, I still cannot figure out what exactly you want to compare. Your model "a" is the unrestricted model, and model "b" is a restricted version of model "a" (i.e., b is a hiearchically reduced version of a, or put differently, all coefficients of b are in a with a having additional coefficients). Thus, it is appropriate to compare the models (also called nested models). Comparing c with a and d with a is also appropriate for the same reason. However, note that depedent on di...
