OT: workstation recommends: Thinkmate?
I'm looking to buy a new workstation, and it looks like Thinkmate makes what I need -- their vsx "virtually silent" variety. I hestitate because I wasn't happy with a laptop I bought a few years ago from a small outfit that sold Linux boxes exclusively. Does anyone have experience with Thinkmate, and in particular, the VSX line? If the later, is it really quiet.

packaging, incremental configuration and puppet
im a new puppet user.
i need to handle a couple of scenarios in our deployment
1. i should be able to do incremental changes to certain class of nodes in
my infrastructure.
is it possible with puppet. i see in the puppet documentation that the
entire config is downloaded
to the client and then made sure that its in sync with that config. i would
like to have a base config

ajaxy select boxes and existing records
I''ve just made my first form using select boxes that update each other
via observe_field. It works really well for the creation of record and
it''s making the form a whole lot nicer to use.
The problem is editing records, the first select box is not part of the
model but is used to populate the second select, which is a required
attribute of the model. When the edit form is

best, safest and easiest way to provide remote access to files on linux machine
dear list.
this question is rather related to samba, although not exclusively. I
consider it related enough to ask here, please apologise if you don't.
we are in the process of setting up a samba domain at my company. a goal is
to replace our current nt4 servers. another goal is to provide an easy way
to access the documents on the lan (and peoples home directories) from

I admit I may have misinterpreted your emails.
What's also not clear for me is the purpose in your setup of the three
passdb methods (sql, static, and pam) and two userdb methods (sql and
passwd-file). That's why I've pointed you to the docs and I'm hestitant
to give specific advice that may leave you worse off. Others on the list
may have more insights.

Importing huge XML-Files
Dear all,
for my diploma thesis I have to import huge XML-Files into R for
statistical processing - huge means a size about 33 MB.
I'm using the XML-Package version 1.9
As far as reading the complete file into R via xmlTreeParse doesn't
work or is too slow, I'm trying to use xmlEventParse but I got
completely stuck.
I have many different type of nodes

Latest Flac license thinking?
A while back Josh was thinking of changing the Flac license, and posted a
question on Slashdot regarding various licensing schemes.
Josh, have you come to any conclusions about future licensing of Flac?

I have a weird problem with PDC on samba 3.5.3 and I think I need developers' help :)
I'm sorry for the very long debug pasted below but I'm afraid lower
debug levels would not give enough useful information about the
problem. I've been investigating it for over two weeks with no result.
Maybe developers can tell me where to search for the cause - browsing
source code is very hard...
I have a Samba PDC with LDAP backend. Configuration works fine on
3.0.x version but

Cheap ZFS homeserver.
So after toying around with some stuff a few months back I got bogged down and set this project aside for a while. Time to revisit. <BR><BR>
Looking around there still is not a good "these cards/motherboards" work list. the HCL is hardly ever updated, and its far more geared towards business use than hobbyist/home use. So bearing all of that in mind I will need the

Kernel errors, resulting in system crashes
Hi Guys,
After a chat with some helpful people on Freenode I've included as much
information as I can think to about this error, if you need anything else
please don't hesitate to ask.
I run a webserver (remotely administered, no graphical user interface that
i know of - certainly not one running all the time) - in the past few days
this error has started to occur, the system dies and

Delete Phabricator metadata tags before committing
I also find the "Reviewed by" tag useful (as well as the review link), for
the same reasons. In fact, I don't even use arcanist to push commits, so I
do it all by hand, and only include the "Reviewed by" and "Differential
Revision" tags.

Performance & capacity characteristics of R?
I hope this is merely a FAQ, and not an AFAQ (annoyingly....).
I'm a SAS programmer, with several years' experience of the system,
evaluating alternatives. See the SAS for Linux website (URL in sig) for
more info.
I'm exploring R's capabilities and limitations. I'd be very interested
in having a deeper understanding of it capacity and performance
limitations in dealing with
