The VM as a way of saving our digital heritage

A way in which I can set up an environment with any old OS and software and be able to boot and interact with it now, or next year or 100 years from now. It is the answer to 'how do we guarantee access to our digitized cultural heritage?' That puts a great burden on the team doing this work. It means you have to guarantee that an archivist in 2110 can take a VM created today and boot it up and run it on their hyper-quantum-bio computer (the one that you could mistake for a real penguin) under Linux version 15.4.32... and stil...

Corel heritage applications
I understand that the applications that Corel release for Linux are WinXX apps tweaked to run under Wine. I have no problem with that, but it makes me wonder what success has been achieved running Corel Win apps. Sure beats upgrading if they still do the job you want. The applications that interest me are: WordPerfect version 7.0.2.19 Quatro Pro version 7.0.2.14 Corel Ventura

I need to import several ascii files in fixed format with two different record types. The data comes from European Labor Force Surveys, wich is a household survey. The first record type is for people over 16 years, and the second much sorter is for people aged 15 or less (this record has a filler with several blanks to get the same record length). The files tipically have 160000 records, with 176

bargraph.CI change se for sd
Hi there, I am a beginner. I would like to change the error bars in the bargraph.CI function from the default (se) to (sd). The help file says ci.fun= function(x) c(fun(x)-se(x), fun(x)+se(x)) Is there a simple way of telling the function what (x) precisely is - I already define in in the of the bargraph.CI function and assume that is should be able to use that information. cheers, Herwig --
