Re: setting up asterisk to handle incoming SIP URI
I would like to setup my Asterisk server to process an incoming SIP
URI and redirect all requests to a specific context.
Example:
(1) using a sip phone I'd like to be able to call: sip:somedomain.com
*or* sip:someone@somedomain.com
(2) i'd like my asterisk server to answer the call and route it to
the context=in-from-sipclient which would play thru some DP actions
Can anyone give

echo system command and set the results to a new variable
I am looking to issue a 'System cmd' that will echo the results into
a new variable -- can anyone tell me the correct way to do this?
example: at the terminal I am currently able to issue this command:
echo | date > date.txt
I end up with a file called date.txt with the contents: Mon Aug 29
18:32:45 EDT 2005
I would like to issue a command in my dialplan that puts the date

Newbie MP3Player() cmd questions
If there is anyone on this list running Asterisk 1.0.7 beta 3 under
10.4.1 can you please tell me if you are able to execute the Asterisk
cmd MP3Player(filename)
I can't figure out how to get a working MP3 player to trigger the
audiofile when I replace filename with an actual path to a file.
Basically, when I put an OSX compiled version of MPG123 in /usr/bin
Asterisk will not startup.

Followup: MP3Player cmd issue (for Asterisk OS X users)
Getting the proper version of MPG123 (v0.59r) setup under OS X was
unusually complicated for me. Sorry for pestering the list with the
MP3Player() issues I kept posting about. Your inbox will be happy to
know that I finally got the correct file at:

Sending an SMS out of Asterisk via Kannel
GOAL: To pass variables from Asterisk to Kannel when sending out an
SMS message using a URL.
CURRENTLY: I am able to pass a URL via Asterisk to Kannel and out of
my GSM modem BUT I haven't figured out how to include Asterisk
variables in the string.
I was hoping someone could help me figure out what I'm doing wrong.
Perhaps there is a simple AGI I should be using. I am not

How to set the SMSC sender = VoIP provider 10-digit #
I have a VoIP provider that terminates to a PSTN 10-digit number. I
want to be able to send/receive SMS messages that appear to be from
the 10-digit number that my VoIP provider gives me.
I am currently integrating Asterisk with Kannel and it works great.
Unfortunately, my mobile phone provider Cingular, doesn't allow me to
alter my number when I send out SMS messages. Or at least

How to: recompile asterisk 1.0.7 beta 3
I was wondering how I can add/extend the os x 1.0.7 beta build of
Asterisk with additional modules?
Asterisk is installed and running great but I was hoping to install a
Fax Detenction module by Newman Technologies. Below is a list of
the installation instructions.
I understand I need to recompile the application but it's not clear
to me what I would need to do with regards to the

MP3Player cmd issue
I am running CVS HEAD (on a Linux-PPC machine.)
My current dialplan generates an error at the console in asterisk
when I attempt to issue the MP3Player command -- I can't figure out
why it's not playing the actual audio file?
The rest of the dialplan works great.
Here's what I see in the console:

Asterisk SMS via IAX2?
In v1.2beta1, README.sms mentions that SMS() allows sending and
receiving of text messages over the PSTN (and that it's not likely to
work over a compressed link.) I think this likely answers my
following question, but I wanted to ask because maybe someone has
accomplished this:
Is it possible to route an incoming SMS via a PSTN terminated IAX2
trunk using SMS()? Ideally, I'd

How to resolve SMS/WAP/MMS/VoIP gateways on a shoestring?
I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on what options I
have for mapping incoming/outgoing SMS messages to/from a telephone
number that I am given by a VoIP provider who does not currently
offer SMSC services?
In other words, Voicepulse, my VoIP provider, provides me with a PSTN
terminated number (hypothetically 222-222-2222). I use my Asterisk
server to handle the calls that
