stability measures for heirarchical clustering
Dear R users,
I'm interested in measuring the stability of a heirarchical clustering, of
the overall clustering and finding sub clusters (from cutting the
heirarchical clustering at different levels) which demonstrate stability.
I saw some postings on the R help from a while back about bootstrapping for
clustering (using sample and generating a consesus tree with a web based
tool CONSENSE)

Heirarchical tree data structure
Hello,
I'm modeling a watershed, and have a file linking individual tributaries
- the name of each tributary and the water body into which it flows
(which can be a tributary of another water body). I want to use this to
build a tree data structure (a root, and then child nodes, linked to
further child nodes, etc.). Is there a package that builds and
traverses such data structures?
Thanks,

NAT proxy concepts
Hi Guys
I have been taking a close look at some networking

are imposed by NAT. In particular the constraints impose by

Goodness of fit for hclust?
I'd like to get a measure of goodness of fit for a heirarchical
clustering result from hclust. Something that would indicate the
extent to which the dendrogram accurately represents the original
dissimilarity matrix. Is there an easy way to do this?
Or, does anyone have code for computing distances between nodes given
an hclust structure? So far, my searches have come up dry.

Relational Databases or XML?
Dear R-Help,
I am working on a paper in an R course for large file support in R using scan(), relational databases, and XML. I have never used SQL or heirarchical document formats such as XML (except where it occurs without user interaction), and knowledge in RDBs and XML is lacking in my program. I have tried finding a working example for the novices-novice on the topic, read many postings, the

esfq ? or wrr ?
Hi
If I have a HTB class with 128kbit, and I want to
put "N" users in that class ( in order to share
bandwidth fairly ) ,
which is better for me ? esfq (hash dst) or wrr ?
I would attach esfq or wrr to HTB parent class.
Also I''ve readed on Jim script that over WRR put
a RED qdisc, but I don''t understand it.

R2WinBUGS sending variables as factors
Hello R and BUGS users,
I am writing a heirarchical model in R to send to BUGS via R2WinBUGS and
I am finding it difficult to get the model to run. I seem to be having
two problems.
1) I can't seem to send variables classed as factors (Month), is there a
way do this?
2) Checking the Log in WinBUGS I can see that the model is Syntactically
correct, but Bugs is not able to recognise the the

HELP FOR BUGS
Hi Sir
I am very new user of R for the research project on multilevel logistic regression.
There is confusion about bugs() function in R and BUGS software. Is there any relation between these two? Is there any comprehensive package for Multilevel Logistic modelling in R?
Please guide in this regard.
Thank You

Help with HB analysis in R for a conjoint study Data
Dear Group
I was referring to a conjoint analysis scenario using R from the paper
referred below:
Agricultural Information Research 17(2),2008,86-94
available online at www.jstage.jst.go.jp/
This paper describes the data modelling of a conjoint study design based
on conditional logit procedure.
I understand that Heirarchical Bayes is asymptotically equivalent to
Conditionallogit. However it

unix groups and samba, printing
My samba environment is very simple, stable and useful.
I'm still running samba 2.0.x as a workgroup and having
been handling heirarchal group access for years via
symlinks from $HOME and Unix group perms.
This machine has always been just a file server.
I've been adding scsi drives as space requirements
have grown.
Now I have good need (due to the addition of a
Win2K terminal server) to add print serving
to my samba box. I...

Tag changes
A few days ago, I initiated a conversation with Jonathan Walther to
seek his advice on how he might tag a CD that I ogg'ed. Out of this
discussion, we decided to make a couple of changes to the proposed
standard.
1) A new LABELNO tag was added to the list. This would contain the
record label's catalogue number. Generally available on the face of
the CD. Probably more useful than

Module Organization
This is in reference to David Schmitt''s writeup [1]
I like that writeup a lot; I just had a few comments/clarifications:
* Namespaces: For now, we just use a flat namespace for modules, i.e.
you can''t have modules within modules, and you always know that in a
fully qualified name ''foo::bar::baz'' that ''foo'' is the module name and

Test for equality of complicatedly related average correlations
Dear R-Users,
I am currently looking for a way to test the equality of two correlations
that are related in a very special way. Let me describe the situation with
an example.
- There are 100 respondents, and there are 2 points in time, t=1 and t=2.
- For each of the respondents and at each of the time points, I have
information on 10 X-variables and on 10 Y-variables.

logLik.lm()
Hello,
I'm trying to use AIC to choose between 2 models with
positive, continuous response variables and different error
distributions (specifically a Gamma GLM with log link and a
normal linear model for log(y)). I understand that in some
cases it may not be possible (or necessary) to discriminate
between these two distributions. However, for the normal
linear model I noticed a discrepancy

Domain-name appended into username when "selecting users or groups"
Dear all,
I am facing a peculiar situation:
on my smb.conf log level = 5, and on my windows machine I log on as a
local administrator to add remote desktop users that are in fact domain
users.
When my worgroup = SOMETHING, everything works fine. When I change my
worgroup to: workgroup = example.com, and try to add a new remote
desktop user, and set as an object name example.com\user and try

Thoughts on Second-Tier Documentation
In the course of this argument, keep in mind that I think Rails is
making excellent progress in the development of documentation and
community. I am only trying to develop discussion of where we need to
go next.
A consistent theme we are seeing on this list, I believe, is frustration
caused by the lack of second-tier documentation. So far we have...
