...tly run samba with server min protocol = NT1 but I need to move towards server min protocol = SMB2 is there any way I can detect which clients still use the older protocol versions? IBM AIX problems
Heiner Schwarte has helped me with the AIX problem that I and Janusz Kawczak recently reported here. Heiner had found out earlier that there was a problem with the 'finite' c-library function [Heiner's test code see below] when gcc (and older versions of xlc) is used. He also found that in...

Hardware Raid cards RAID 0 / 1
Last week we tried to install Centos on a brand new HP ML150 G2 with AIC-8130/ Marvell SATA Raid card and it was a no go. We tried a few other flavors of Linux as a test and all had trouble as well. Unfortunately time didn't permit so we opted for a Windows solution to get the box into production. We have never had a problem with IDE and Embedded SATA (Non Raid) Next time we want to

R on AIX (>4.2)
Hi, I'm determined to get R compiling & running on a machine running AIX 4.2. I've seen previous emails in the archive about this topic. The main obstacle is getting dynamic loading to work, but it works for Tcl and hence is feasable. Questions: - is anybody _currently_ working with R on AIX? - why have previous fixes to the sources not been introduced into the released

wbinfo -i output different before 1st authentication
Thank you very much, Rowland! Very helpful. But do you say that the change in the output of „wbinfo -i“ is expected after the user has logged in? Should the use of „domain.realm“ vs „NTDOMAIN“ not be consistent, no matter if the user has logged in or not? SYD flood dropped on Sendmail (centos 4.x)
My guys, My firewall seems to block an attack my Centos / Sendmail boxes on port 110. These servers require a reboot after each attack. My firewall says it's blocked? Do I need to patch something on sendmail? Or is my firewall not doing its job (Sonicwall)? This is not the first time this has happened. 11/20/2008 02:53:04.864 - SYN flood attack dropped - 75.2.205.141, 48102 -

...o query the domain "prefix" of a user which will not change depending on the fact if the user has ever tried to login to the server or not? Does it maybe depend on some command line option? FYI: getent passwd shows the same behaviour. Thank you very much for your help and assistance! Heiner

Smbstatus shows same share for same client several times - related to locking issues?
...ies write access. I wonder if the lock taken at 09:37 belongs to the first session and later at 10:50 the second session is active and samba denies write access? I will welcome any explanation or clarification. We run samba 4.9.8 with ctdb in a clustered setup (IBM spectrum scale) Kind regards, Heiner -- ======================= Heinrich Billich ETH Z?rich Informatikdienste Tel.: +41 44 632 72 56 heinrich.billich at id.ethz.ch ========================

IEEE 754 Style Arithmetic
I have been looking at the R mathematical library with a view to making changes so that it will handle IEEE 754 entities like NaN and +/- Inf. This appears to be not too hard and I am fairly well down the path to converting the existing code (and simultaneously converting some of the more suspect algorithms to something more solid). Q1: I have looked at the Splus implementation and I have a bit
