What is your Backup Strategy?
...e considered many options, so I thought I would share and get an idea for what others are doing. My setup is two different locations with a 10MB WLAN fiber link between the two. Each location has it's own PRI as well. I have considered and tested many options this last year or so. 1) Using hearbeat and drbd to monitor the servers. When the primary fails the backup will assign itself the virtual ip used between the two, and then mount the drbd disk which has the asterisk configs and voicemail. The biggest con to this is hearbeat just monitors a ping response either over IP or a COM port. So...

re: different availability requirements for multiple ocfs2 volumes?
...rather have my RMAN backup fail, and not have the machine reboot .. just because of this volume alone. My question is, is it possible to configure the "backup' volume is such a way that the o2cb service will not reboot the machine in case that volume has problems? Maybe disabling the hearbeat for that volume ? - -peter -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.1 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFFgcM+oyy5QBCjoT0RArgRAJ0a9+/N8upHXrGt4s4xeUOzMHuxZACfSKmV xVpd5edIX8Z0R5fWfVtWnK8= =ngtE -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

I'd like to stop the OCSF2_disk_heart_beat.
...rantees of the writing frequency to CF are up to 100,000 times. However, it exceed in two day, due to the disk_heart_beat executed every two seconds. I tried following procedures to solve that. It seems solved. 1. O2HB_DEFAULT_DEAD_THRESHOLD changed larger than previous value. It's defined in hearbeat.h. 2. The Skip_flag defined as a global parameter. 3. When the number of connected nodes becomes two , skip_flag is turned on by dlmdomain.c 4. If the skip_flag is ON, the o2hb_do_disk_hearbeat is not executed. 5. When the number of connected nodes becomes below two, skip_flag is turned off by...

Two sets of Heartbeat HTTPD clusters on same subnet
Hi all, I am new to Hearbeat so please be kind :) I also posted this on Linux-HA lists with no responses so I posted it here. I have successfully configure two machines to use heartbeat to cluster httpd. The two nodes are called etk-1 and etk-2. I am trying to configure another two machines to act as a separate cluster (on th...

interesting installation problem - interaction between drbd and xen
...xendomains was trying to bring up VMs, before drbd devices were initialized - leading to all kinds of weirdness. The domains would try to come up, get through the boot stages, and then hang as soon as they tried to mount root and swap. Changing S21xendomains to S76xendomains (after both drbd and hearbeat) solved the problem. WHICH LEADS TO A QUESTION: This isn''t really a bug with any one piece of code - it''s a bug in the interaction, specifically in the naming/ordering of the init package. And I expect that this may be specific to packaging (I''m going to do more diggin...

LifeKeeper vs RH/CentOS Cluster
...t/CentOS clustering. For basic services such as web, dns, and LDAP it seems to work well. My basic configuration just uses the core services and a DRBD volume for the shared storage. We have some existing LifeKeeper clustered systems. I don't know much about them except that they use a similar hearbeat/shared storage solution. Has anyone here used both and can mention some pros/cons of each? In particular, is there anything that LifeKeeper provides that cannot be replicated via the RedHat/CentOS solution? Thanks all for any input.

Floating VIP...
Hi, right now I am using only one external server as a gateway for the internal servers. I would like to enable a fail-over on a second server. To implement the floating VIP, should I use heartbeat+pacemaker? Or is there something more "lightweight"? Basically, I just need server2 up the VIP when server1 is down, and server2 down the VIP when server1 is back up (or server 1 does not up

BackgrounDRb 0.2.0 Release! Complete rewrite.
...or other ruby client code. When workers are spawned an interprocess communication channel is opened between the MiddleMan and the worker. There is a heartbeat setup between parent and child processes so that if you kill the parent, all children processes are killed off the next time they try to hearbeat. All of this happens transparently to you as a user. The new release comes with a brand new job scheduler. You can use simple triggers like repeat_every or you can get more complex and use full cron compatible syntax. Workers can be scheduled by two built in ''trigger'' types. A s...

[LLVMdev] 2.4 Pre-release (v1) Available for Testing
...imizations and such I want, and it just works. I do use CMake, but honestly it is rather rare as I find it generally just easier to compile and link everything myself due to how simple I try to keep everything. I develop from Visual Studio 2005 with the Visual Assist addon (I would drop VC++ in a hearbeat if there was some other IDE, say like Eclipse, that got anywhere near the feature-set that the Visual Assist add-on has, so far nothing is getting close, without Visual Assist though, I would prefer something else, like Eclipse or so, to VC++, but Visual Assist just swings the favor overwhelmingly...

puppetd can set more than one server address
hi,all I want set up a puppet HA structure. but if the puppetd can set more than one server address ,the work will be simple :D if one puppetmaster have error, the client can auto try the next. I think I can use the heartbeat or dns to do this same thing, but not so good. so I want know the puppetd can direct set in the configure file ? if not, will be add this option? -- Huang

...ctly is high availability: is it 24/7 power on time? or is ti "when needed". Please not it am not talking about the maybe arrogant "on demand" attitude of a human. I have been a member of this, linux-cluster, and other lists for alomst half a decade. I have managed a two node Hearbeat/DRBD setup for about 2 years which was transformed into a two-node (which became a three) node RHCS cluster at least for about two Quarters. This under extreme circumstances in India like 4 hours of (Electrical Power Load Shedding) outage every day with no fencing device. I can claim I at least t...
