5.5 ISO size vs RHEL
...rrect? Any ideas
why would there be such a discrepancy if they are built from the same (or very
similar) source?

Yes, perhaps you could explain to us why you are top posting.
So your idea of minimal is 3GB. Mine is much less. The minimal ISO of CentOS 7 is < 1GB:

Standards for delivery of GPL software in CRAN packages
I wondered if there were standard practices in CRAN for delivery of R source implementing functions in R packages. I has encountered a couple of packages where the gzipped version of source contains very little, primarily the Help files describing the functions in the package. In some cases I can find the source as the value of the function name.
Given that these packages are released as GPL,

Possible repo polllution
Hi,
I've just been checking my local copy of the CentOS repos. I found
200+ i386/i686 packages in both the updates/5/RPMS and
updates/6/Packages directories.
I checked with my rsync site ( ftp.heanet.ie ) and the equivalent UK
site ( ftp.mirrorservice.org ) and they both carried these packages
also.
Is this a case a repo pollution, it can't be necessary to have i386
packages in the x86_64 updates. Just checking before I delete these
packages.
Thanks.

Intel 965 howto Was: Easy upgrade path from beta5 to stable 5?
Well,
I have written that onboard network controller doesn't work... It's not
true anymore.
A small howto:
1) add pci network card
2) install with "linux all-generic-ide pci=nommconf"
3) update to the latest distro kernel 2.6.9-42.0.3
4) get
http://heanet.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/e1000/e1000-7.3.20.tar.gz
5) do have kernel-headers, rpmbuild ... etc.
6) rpmbuild -ta e1000-7.3.20.tar.gz
7) rpm -ihv /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386/e1000-7.3.20-1.i386.rpm
8) boot, remove pci eth, boot :o)

R performance
Dear R Fans,
I was recently asking myself how quick R is in code execution. I have
been running simulations lately that need quite a time for execution and
I was wondering if it is reasonable at all to do more computational
extensive projects with R. Of course, it is possible to compare
execution time for the same code written in several languages but maybe
someone has some experience on the

Make R 'Beep'
Dear all,
I would like to ask you if R can produce any kind of sound. It would be useful when code execution stops R to notify me by playing some sound.
Is that possible in R?
I would like to thank you in advance for your help

yum install nagios, adding dag repository
Hi,
I'm running an Opteron 64 bit server, and in an effort to re-join it to my
nagios monitoring, I have tried the install nagios via Yum.
When I type:
yum install nagios, or nagios-nrpe, or nagios-plugins, I get:
"Nothing to do". as output.
In wanting to add the DAG repository to my machine, the documentation i've
come across seems vague.
Can someone advise me on either of

Dag RPM Repo "error"
I'm getting the error below when I try to do a yum update on my server.
It seems that it is looking for an update for my boot loader -
syslinux-3.62-1.el4.rf.i386.rpm, but can't find it via the normal path.
I've tried looking further up the directory tree on
apt.sw.be/redhat/el4/en. I've found a place to download it from. [

Introducing a new com32 module : HDT
...the hardware detection.
Most of that code have been revamped from other project like dmidecode
or the linux kernel itself.
The com32 api is really a nice play for developing new features.
All of that work is only available in libraries or sample code.
During his fosdem presentation
(http://ftp.heanet.ie/mirrors/fosdem-video/2009/maintracks/syslinux.xvid.avi),
hpa said publicly that all that code could be a nice base for having an
hardware detection tool.
That tool would be able to detect computer's components and display them
nicely to users.
I was really motivated in developing such to...
