Samba using Virtual Servers (load balancing)
...samba for all fileshares/printing/PDC on
two SUN E3500's. We like to replace these with about 10
Linux 19" XEON (pizza)boxes. The question: Are there
any implementation out there using a loadbalancing cluster
doing samba?
A simple diagram of the setup I have in mind:

Thanks for any information/pointers in the right direction.

Mirror of SAN Boxes with ZFS ? (split site mirror)
Hello,
I''m thinking about a setup that looks like this:
- 2 headnodes with FC connectivity (OpenSolaris)
- 2 backend FC srtorages (Disk Shelves with RAID Controllers presenting a huge 15 TB RAID5)
- 2 datacenters (distance 1 km with dark fibre)
- one headnode and one storage in each data center
(Sorry for this ascii art :)

Identical yum configs, different results
Hi all,
I have two new Centos 5.2 servers ("drizzle" and "fog"), both ROCKS headnodes installed from the same rolls. Identical `uname -a' output (2.6.18-92.1.13.el5, x86_64 etc), identical yum versions (Version: 3.2.8 Release: 9.el5.centos.1) with identical yum.conf files and identical repo files in /etc/yum.repos.d.
To simplify things I've disabled all repos except the...

Sending PATH using SendEnv
...so I thought I'd post here. Apologies in advance if that's not the case.
I'm setting up a CentOS cluster with OpenSSH_4.3p2 which uses ssh to launch processes on the remote nodes. I'm trying to use the SendEnv/AcceptEnv functionality to send the PATH environment variable from the headnode when users are launching jobs on remote nodes, since everything is cross-mounted and therefore in the same place. However, for some reason it's being overwritten on the remote nodes with some kind of default value, which I assume is compiled into the shell.
Using verbose output I can see th...

MATROX GPU - xorg-x11-drv-mga-1.6.3 on supermicro server
Hello Guys,
our cluster runs till 2014 on supermicro board.
It is not unusual that still mainboards with mga graphics cards are delivered.
So I have then adjusted the mga driver from centos 6 - the specification file - ,
to be build on CentOS 7. Since then this runs on the headnode without failures.
Maybe you should provide this via epel. The source can be found here:
http://centos.cms4all.org/repo/7/drivers/SRPM/xorg-x11-drv-mga-1.6.3-11.el7.centos.src.rpm
This is the latest from Centos 6.9.
Sincerely
Andy

What about ZFS ?
Hi everybody,
I'm looking for information about using GlusterFS with ZFS. I got information that talked about a sort of incompatibility between the both technologies because of unsupported xattr feature in ZFS.
What are the latest news about this ?
Thank you in advance.

how well will this work
Hi Folks,
I find myself trying to expand a 2-node high-availability cluster from
to a 4-node cluster. I'm running Xen virtualization, and currently
using DRBD to mirror data, and pacemaker to failover cleanly.
The thing is, I'm trying to add 2 nodes to the cluster, and DRBD doesn't
scale. Also, as a function of rackspace limits, and the hardware at
hand, I can't separate
