Installing CentOS 2.1 on ICH7R controller
...ich means it should look just like regular IDE controller to the OS. In this mode, ide0 and ide1 are PATA controllers, and 4 SATA ports are mapped to ide2 and ide3. If I boot from the 2.1 installation CD, all the drives are detected (CD-ROM as hda, and four SATA drives as hde, hdf, hdg, and hdh, just as expecte per above mappings). It detect IRQ for ide2/3 right away, and says it will probe for IRQ for ide0 later. Well, it hangs just after it probes and detects IRQ for ide0. I've tried all bunch of "standard" kernel options (turnning off DMA, disabling ACPI, and s...

using an lvm for kvm vm
Is there a simple way to directly install a vm on an lvm (or proably seperate LVM's for root and swap)? For example something like: lvcreate -L 10G -n testvm_root vg_myvg lvcreate -L 1G -n testvm_swap Then somehow setup the VM to be able to directly install and boot the vm from these LV's. How do I do this? Could you then pause the virtual machine and safely take an LVM snapshot,

feedback/help request
..., and buggy design, it seems). The symptom is that as the kernel loads, the Intel PIIX4 chip is detected, and parameters for ide0 and 1, hda through hdd are retrieved from the BIOS as expected, then the Samurai controller is detected, and the kernel tries to retrieve info on ide2,3 and hde through hdh from the BIOS (which isn't there) and hangs. I _think_ I have tried every combination of trying to pass parameters to the kernel to tell it to ignore that controller, using command line parameters and editing the syslinux.cfg file on the install floppy, to no avail. I even tried editing the p...

Problems with ext3 fs
Hi, Apologies, this is going to be quite long - I'm going to provide as much info as possible. I'm running a system with ext3 fs on software RAID. The RAID set-up is as shown below: jlm@nijinsky:~$ cat /proc/mdstat Personalities : [linear] [raid0] [raid1] [raid5] read_ahead 1024 sectors md0 : active raid1 hdc1[1] hda1[0] 96256 blocks [2/2] [UU] md5 : active raid1 hdk1[1] hde1[0]

[Bridge] recent crashes? Linux kernel 2.6.18-1.2239.fc5 (Linux Fedora Core 5)
At the risk of angering the crash Gods, my sustem has NOT crashed again since I downgraded the kernel from 2.6.18-1.2239.fc5 to 2.6.18-1.2200.fc5. Given that newfound stability, and my lack of time, I'm going to put on hold any further diagnostics, until the next kernel revision is released. I have submitted a report at bugzilla.redhat.com (bug 218128). (Ah, nuts; accidentally created a

Rebuild of kernel 2.6.9-67.0.20.EL failure
Hello list. I'm trying to rebuild the 2.6.9.67.0.20.EL kernel, but it fails even without modifications. How did I try it? Created a (non-root) build environment (not a mock ) Installed the kernel.scr.rpm and did a rpmbuild -ba --target=`uname -m` kernel-2.6.spec 2> prep-err.log | tee prep-out.log The build failed at the end: Processing files: kernel-xenU-devel-2.6.9-67.0.20.EL Checking
