cdrom_pc_intr: The drive appears confused
Hello, this morning my centos 5 server (2.6.18-53.1.4.el5) failed on the dvd device and disabled dma. The dvd-writer (/dev/hdg) is connected to the following controller as a secondary master. 02:07.0 RAID bus controller: Silicon Image, Inc. PCI0680 Ultra ATA-133 Host Controller (rev 02) There is also an harddisc as primary master connected on this controller. This harddisc is the only device in the system that I put to sl...

Cannot re-make a software raid pair
Apologies if you get this twice - the first one didn't seem to make it... Hi Guys, I have just replaced a faulty Max...woah, wait...this one's a Seagate... IDE hard disk but I cannot remake the software raid pair. The currently running disk is hda and I am trying to add back hdg - both are master drives on separate controllers. I have run fdisk on hdg and created the same partition structure as had and changed their types to 'fd' but when I try and rebuild the array I get: mdadm /dev/md0 -a /dev/hdg1 mdadm: hot add failed for /dev/hdg1: Invalid argument If I lo...

Tbench benchmark numbers seem to be limiting samba performance in the 2.4 and 2.6 kernel.
...dmesg, I'm seeing something strange.. I think this is determined by kernel internals. It seems strange and problematic to me. I believe this number is controller dependant, so I'm wondering if I have a controller issue here... hda: max request size: 128KiB hdc: max request size: 1024KiB hdg: max request size: 64KiB hdi: max request size: 128KiB hdk: max request size: 1024KiB From all of this information, I believe my hard drives are somehow not tuned properly due to the low hdparm numbers, especially hda and hdc. This is causing the raid array to perform poorly, in dbench and hdp...

...at. Cylinder 1 is the same as LBA 63. And that is sufficiently large for a GRUB legacy stage 2. - OK this is screwy. Partitions 1 and 3 on both drives have the same number of sectors, but partitions 2 differ: /dev/hde2 401,625 975,691,709 975,290,085 fd Linux raid autodetect /dev/hdg2 401,625 1,952,491,904 1,952,090,280 fd Linux raid autodetect That can't work as these are two partitions meant to form /dev/md2 and need to be the same size. - Also, 401625 is not 8 sector aligned. So it's a double whammy and since it has to be repartitioned anyway you might...

specifying header in sqldf() and RSQLite
I have a file that I'm planning on manipulating with sqldf(). The header for this file is malformed, and I was wondering if there's a way to specify the values of the header ahead of time. I can see there are T/F options for header in sqldf(... list(header=T, ...), but was wondering if there's a way to explicitly stated what the header should be. Thanks, Andrew [[alternative HTML

acard 865 corruption issues
..., I'm not sure if this is a hardware issue, a driver issue, an ext3 issue or some combination of them... I have a KT133A motherboard with an on-board promise controller, and an ACARD ATP865 in a PCI slot. I'm running 2.4.19-ac4 with the lvm 1.0.5 patches. The acard has two drives, hde and hdg attached to it, both ibm120GXPs, both primary, badblocks shows them as good, smartctl shows them as good. If, say I create a single partition on /dev/hde1 type linux and format it ext3, mount it, copy a file into it, unmount it, mount it again and read the file, it's corrupted. (I tested this b...

My server won't boot (grub looping - stage2)

I've followed the manual ( http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/manual/html_node/Installing-GRUB-using-grub_002dinstall.html#Installing-GRUB-using-grub_002dinstall) but now just keeps beeping with the GRUB fixed :) I have 3 IDE disks, hda, hde and hdg. My /boot is a raid device /dev/md0 of /dev/(hda2,hde2,hdg2). cat /proc/mdstat shows all disks online and active in the array. I have tried the grub-install --root-directory=boot --no-floppy hd0 (ou /dev/hda). With the same results. Ideas? -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachme...

CentOS 5 grub boot problem
Dumb thought: I don't remember how, other than from a grub menu, but I'm pretty sure there's a way to default boot into a grub shell. Once there, you can see, using file completion, the drives, and where your initrd is. mark
