e2fsck: bad magic number in super-block
...xt3 and is working fine for a couple of weeks. However, I did a silly thing when I e2fsck (version 1.23) an ext3 /home partiction without umounting it. Now, I believe my partiton super-block is corrupted and the system wasn't able to mount /home. I tried as suggested to do a e2fsck -b 8193 /dev/hdaX but returned with the "bad magic numer in super-block while trying to open /dev/hdaX". I've also tried debugfs and have the same error. As I've data on /home partition, I would very much hope to recover it. Short of doing a make2fs to create a new ext3 partition, is this a there a...

hard drive failing in linux raid
.../md5. I think I know what to do based on mdadm man page and this list's archives but there is no harm in confirming right? ;) From this post http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos/2006-April/063076.html I plan on removing the old partitions from the array like this..... mdadm /dev/mdx -r /dev/hdax. Then I will shut down the server, replace the hard drive, make the server boot from second IDE drive and hopefully boot into Centos. From there do I have to manually create each /dev/mdx partition and then re-add them like this....mdadm /dev/mdx -a /dev/hdax ? That is what I am not sure about whet...

root-partition
Hi all, I've been working with the ext3-fs for several months (since 0.0.2c), and it works pretty fine for me, but I haven't found out, how I works to migrate my root-partition from ext2 to ext3. I tried it with the commands at the lilo-prompt, but it didn't work. I only received a kernel panic. Any ideas, how I can migrate to ext3 on my root-partition? tnx, Joachim -- Joachim

SCSI install to IDE install - help
Hi, a customer has a Centos installation on SCSI disk (aic7xxx), there are some programs that he no longer have the installation media (some accounting stuff). Due to the SCSI disk going bad we must tranfer the installation to some other disks. SCSI disks are very difficult to find here and must be ordered (and wait about 45 days to arrive at the dealer). Can I clone the SCSI disk to a IDE Disk

a bug in ext3 code for 2.4.7
...ption will correct this problem (i have to test), but in the mean time I would like to report this bug. If you want to see my damaged /etc partition, download from here: http://www.quazartecnologia.com/bad-fs.img.gz (675K compressed, 52 MB uncompressed) uncompress and dd if=bad-fs.img of=/dev/hdaX Now, I don't know, maybe this problem has been fixed already? I just can't move to the lastest kernel right now. Is it possible to update 2.4.7 with the lastest ext3 sources? How can I do this? Nikolai
