Updating hardware clock from cron
Is there a package to do this? Normally the hardware clock is set during shutdown if one is running ntpd. But if a long-running server shuts down unexpectedly, this isn't done, and the hardware clock might be off by a lot when it comes back up. So setting it periodically from a cron job could be useful. What do others do? Adding a one liner to /etc/cron.daily that invokes

Lotus Notes and Daylight Saving Time
Hi Folks, how do you handle the change from standard time to daylight saving time? We are using LotusNotes 6.5.1 and Wine 20041019 on Kubuntu 5.10 Breezy Badger. This is the combination where we experienced the least amount of Bugs. Our hosts run UTC on the hardwareclock and live in the timezone Europe/Vienna, which will change from CET to CEST on sunday. Tests have shown, that

VMware and Time moved backwards
Hi, I followed the discussions regarding the "time moved backward" problem and the use of ntp in such cases. At our department we are running two dovecot servers within an vmware server environment, and unfortunately the timedrift (with ntpd active) exceeds sometimes up to 30 minutes virtual drift within 10 minutes realtime (mostly into future). This is due to some overcorrections

A little confusion between "tapdisk" and "tapdisk-ioemu"
Hi everyone, as what I''ve learned form this link<http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/blktap>, i know that when i specify tap:aio I’m actually using the blktap driver and finally using "tapdisk" to wirite to raw image file. but the truth is even when i delete /usr/sbin/tapdisk the domU can still boot on my machine with tap:aio protocol after a deeper look into the scene,

How to trigger a script in a guest after resume? (aka guest system clock incorrect after host reboot with suspended guest)
Hi Is there a way i can trigger a script within a libvirt guest immediately after resume? E.g. i don't see any log message that indicates to a guest that it had been paused and was just woken up. The problem that i am trying to solve is that when i reboot the host (pausing all guests), the guests' system clocks are a few minutes late after resume. The guests RTC (current_clocksource =

Problem with tap:aio
Hi all I was reading through Xen 3 user manual and saw this tap:aio should be used instead of loopback... Then I came to do that, but I can get it working with replacing `file'' URI''s with `tap:aio''. My OS: Debian Lenny 2.6.26-2-xen-amd64 DomU Xen configuration file: kernel = ''/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.26-2-xen-amd64'' ramdisk =

The configs below show kernel, ramdisk, and disk assignments for the virtual machine. They also show that the virtual machine uses the target disk devices. The last section shows part of the boot sequence starting with the disk assignments,

DomU console appears to hang when starting
Hello, I have Xen running on an Ubuntu 8.04 LTS machine. This machine has been in production for a few months now. Up until recently, all the DomU machines have also been Ubuntu 8.04 machines. Recently, I tried creating a Debian Lenny machine. I use xen tools to create the DomU machines. Upon completion of creating the DomU with xen tools, I start the DomU using the [sanitized] command
