IPSec VPNs: to gif or not to gif
...a problem with ipfw when gif was *not* used, but I haven't found any messages to indicate that it was resolved. I recall suggestions that a new interface esp0 be created so that ipfw could work correctly on both the innner and outer packets of an ESP tunnel. Was that issue ever resolved? jim hatfield

IPFW: combining "divert natd" with "keep-state"
...ing UDP and the replies, which currently I block. But I just can't get my head around how to do this. On the way out, should the dynamic rules be created to match the pre-NAT or post-NAT packets? The man pages are good at explaining both NAT and dynamic rules but not both in combination. Jim Hatfield

Beginner Question on Persp()
I recently downloaded R for Windows, running on Win XP. I'm trying to create a perspective plot but not having any luck after reading the R manual and several examples found on the Internet. I have a 100 x 100 matrix of Z data as a tab-delimited text file exported from Minitab. I read this in to R using read.delim; this seemed to go ok. I created X and Y using seq() to get 100 divisions

nmbd time-out with WINS server
...the log.nmb of a Sun Solaris system, running Solaris 2.6, Samba 2.0.6. This was run at debug level 5 (nmbd -D -d 5). This entry shows timeouts to our WINS server (134.253.181.26) after network connectivity was lost for 5 minutes and then restored. Any insight would be appreciated. Any downsides to using MS Services for Unix NIS server?
...accounts. It would seem from reading the help files that installing Services for Unix on my domain controllers and using the AD-integrated NIS server would work well. I wouldn't need to use winbind, and I would have not only consistent but predictable ID mapping, ie I can ensure that INTERNAL\jhatfield maps to UID 115, which is what it is on the existing NIS server. Are there any downsides to doing this - it seems much simpler than deploying winbind that I feel there must be a catch!

Ben Bolker's '‘emdbook’ Package , rbetabinom
Hello, I am using rbetabinom ( to generate beta binomial random variables) function available in the "emdbook"package written by Professor. Ben Bolker for my research study. I have no questions with this function. However, I am looking for the theoretical method/algorithm of the function "rbetabinom " . FreeBSD-Update + Sendmail
I have been updating my FreeBSD systems for many years by updating and building from source. For the FreeBSD 9.2 cycle, I decided to use freebsd-update for binary update instead. I use Sendmail + Cyrus-SASL and the freebsd-update process only installed a 'bare bones' binary. How do I compile just Sendmail from source so that it uses my /etc/make.conf for the smtp_auth components?

Question restricting ssh access for some users only
I've used ssh as a secure telnet up to now but done little else with it. The FreeBSD machines I look after on our internet-facing network all have one account which I connect to for administration. I've set up /etc/hosts.allow on all the machines to only allow ssh from a limited internal network range. Now I want to create a new account on one machine which will be accessible from the
