Cannot use kickstart file to install CentOS 6.2 into a blank harddisk
I am trying using a kickstart file to install CentOS 6.2 into a new virtual machine (the MBR sector
of the harddisk is all zero), however I found that the installer cannot go through the harddisk
partition. It failed after I chose "Use All Space" at harddisk partition option.
The error message is:

SEcontext setting failure on an external harddisk
I tried moving a PosgreSQL database to an external harddisk due to lack of space on the main harddisks. Not the ideal solution of course but it should work. However, on CentOS 7 the external harddisk is mounted under /run/media and the user. I copied the postgresql database directory and made sure it is owned recursively by postgres, changed the necessary settings in both the systemd unit and the co...

I got the have install a SATA HardDisk on the machine recently. But

Is it a hardware problem or system setting problem.

How to avoid the network reinstall in pxelinux?
Hi, syslinux:
I am using pxelinux to install the Linux by network, it works fine.
My question is in order to boot the client machine from network, my boot
order(which set in BIOS) is: First, network; Second, Harddisk; Third, ......
But when the client machine finished the Linux installation, it will
boot from network again and reinstall the OS again.
So how can avoid this reinstall issue

Harddisk support not working
Hi!
after experimenting for days with xen I was finally able to narrow down
why my xen setup is not working properly. When I add a harddisk to the
guest system the guest system slows down so much that it becomes
impossible to boot. In my hvm testsystem the guest system is a knoppix
cd. When booting from the cd without having a harddisk in the guest
system everything works perfectly. But as soon

Please help with a problem that is slowly driving me nuts :-/
*Quick problem*
Can I kickstart an install by reading all the files from a single partition on
the system and installing onto all the spare space on the same drive?
I am using `harddrive --partition=sda1 --dir=/` but it doesn't seem to work!!

Harddisk noise on TE410P
Hi,
I have this strange problem I need some help with.. It appears that I have
harddisk noise captured by a Digium TE410P card (Same problem on 2 identical
machines..) The machines are two Compaq Proliant DL320 G3's...
Does anyone else have this problem..
Kind Regards

will syslinux work on a harddisk ?
Can someone tell me if syslinux will work on a harddisk ?
I have a 4mb flash device that plugs into the IDE connector
on the motherboard, and i'm trying to get syslinux to work
with it, so I can load a Linux kernel and an initrd.
I'm not having any luck with it.
Then it dawned on me that the boot loader in syslinux might
be expecting a floppy drive rather than an atapi hard disk.

dual disk netboot approach
Hello,
My challenge is to run Linux on a computer
where I don't dare to touch the Microsoft Windows harddisk.
Fifthteen years ago would be trick to attach a second harddisk to the
computer and boot from floppy disk. In 2011 is the idea to attach a
second disk and netboot it.
One approach is to TFTP the kernel and append 'root=/dev/sdb1'
This E-mail is however to seek advice for

Rescan harddisk size without rebooting
Hi list,
I have a SAN attached to a CentOS 4.2 server. I have expanded the size
of the virtual disk within the SAN (by adding a new HD to the disk pool)
and need CentOS to see the new size (CentOS see it as /dev/sdb). I'm
using LVM. Do you know a method for the Volume Group to see that one of
its harddisk is now bigger, without rebooting (it's not a problem with a
reboot but since

External harddisk
I have an old external harddisk, Toshiba 320 Gb, with a USB connector that I wanted to check for contents. It did not start up when connected and I could not hear the motor spinning. After leaving it in the freezer overnight the motor spins but it is not recognized by my computer. I disassembled it and could see that the head assembly rests outside the disk but when it is powered on, the head

Booting from Harddisk
Hi,
I've made several attempts to boot syslinux from the harddisk.
I have a win 98 startdiskette with syslinux and copybs.
I strictly follow the procedure in the syslinux documentation.
Yet, the result of the boot is not that linux is starting.
Instead, the Microsoft windows screen flashes for a couple of
seconds and is then replaced by a Dos prompt.
Syslinux is V2.04. The PC is an IBM Aptiva

nopassany parameter causing trouble
...When specifying the "nopassany" parameter to hide physical drives, I'm
getting different output from ELTORITO.SYS (v1.5, syslinux distro) such
that it fails.
My intent is a LiveCD functionality with a DOS RAMDISK program taking
over as drive C:, meaning either no FAT partitions on harddisks and
removable disks (as the DOS kernel enumerates them) or using the
NOPASSANY parameter for MEMDISK.
Different output:
* ISO9660 found: drive E0 with address 0800h (omitting nopassany)
* Nothing found: drive 70 with address 0000h (nopassany specified)
My expectation was that only floppydrives...

Booting firmware harddisk image with memdisk fails
Hi,
I once again have a problem with memdisk failing to boot a harddisk image
to update my Thinkpad X200s firmware. I extracted the harddisk image
from the eltorito type 4 ISO using the isobar tool.
Then I added memdisk using this image as initrd to my grub, rebooted and it
boots into PC DOS and then freezes (ctrl-alt-del still works to reboot the
system).
Inside Qemu however it works fine
