Samba Connection Problem
I've just set up samba for a small LAN. I'm running samba 2.2.7 on RH 8. Now I have a real problem that I have no clue on. I have VERY intermittent connectivity to the Samba server. If I left a computer (Windows 98) idle for a while, and then try to browse the contents in the Samba server, I will get this error " domain is unavailable" or "The specified network name is no

force Samba bind to internal IP only
Hello everybody, We need to configure Samba (recent cvs) on our Linux (SuSE 7.2) box (iptables/FreeSwan) acting as firewall, router and VPN gateway. Whenever nmbd or smbclient try to connect to our Samba PDC (WINS ok, IP 192.168.0.5) packets are sent with a source address of the external interface x.y.46.70 and will of course be blocked by iptables and never be routable to subnet 192.168.0.0 . Remote machines seen as UNKNOWN
Hello, I have two machines (Samba under Linux, and Win98) that try to connect to another samba machine. They are all two seen as UNKNOWN machines. With the Linux one, I am correctly authenticated, but with the Win98, Connections are rejected. Here is a level 3 log file (It's a bit long, sorry). As you can see, there is an ERRNO = Connection reset by peer Thanks.

let's make it simple
I have not gotten a reply to my last post about not being able to access samba shares, so I would like to start from scratch. I am new to samba and I would like to start with a simple smb.conf that would guarantee access to a share by anyone, then start adding security measures until I have a secure working config. Does anyone have a smb.conf file they could send me that would get me started? --

Need a 'no password required' configuration
I am trying to set up a smb.conf file so that a user and password are NOT required to access the share. Can someone tell me how to do this? net use p: \\sambaserver\public asks for a password, then returns (regardless of the password or user): "The account is not authorized to login form this station. Introduction and question
First let me introduce myself to all the list. My name is Josep and I live near Barcelona. This is my first message to the list (I haven't even read any), and I do not know if it is too easy (my question), or if perhaps it is not possible to do what I'm trying to do. Well, let's begin the interesting stuff and finish all the bla-bla-bla's that most people hate :-D I've

How do I get the @#$$% job name to show instead of smbprn.yada.ya da?
I'm tinkering with this mod to my smb.conf, and can't get the actual filename to be displayed in the printed job history. It's adapted from one Joel put out on the list last year. My impression is that it works for everyone in the world but me.... All that ever shows up is smbprn.yada.yada... in the printer's history of printed jobs. print command = echo %J %p %s >>

Controlling Samba with xinetd
Hi all Just a query from a fellow tech who's playing with Samba. He just asked me the following question, it's something I've never really thought of, but on the face of it could be worth further investigation. Any thoughts?? TIA <snip> Was doing some research last night on high availablilty - led me to a thought which I have seen around before but decided it was not

Help a newbie (please!): Samba and WinXP in a non-PDC environment
Hi all... looking for some assistance with my first Samba setup. The setup: On a small (five-computer, mixed Win2k and WinXP pro) LAN, I'd like a share on my FreeBSD server to be available for storage. No printing, no PDC, no individual user directories or password protection -- just a big ol' slice of storage for everyone to access equally. I've come close, (the share shows up

Printing to FreeBSD server from XP using samba
A couple of days ago I set up my printer on my FreeBSD server and set it up so I could print from my FreeBSD client. This all works very well, printing from botht the server and the FBSD client. However, I also have samba set up for file serving with an XP box. I have been trying for quite some time now to set samba up to enable me to print from the XP client. My situation at the moment is that

Samba won't allow PC connections
Hello list, I am at the hair pulling stage of this game right now. Having read through many of the posts, I still seem to be unable to get my samba server to allow anonymous connections ( or any connections for that matter ) from windows machines. All I want to do is have printers and one folder shared, all as guest accessable. I have made the security level = share and made the shares

Printing from Win2000 to Linux
I have two computers here - one with Win2000 and the other with SuSE 8.1. My goal is that I can print from Win to my printer connected on the Linux machine. Now I tried quite a few things but nothing will work. First of all, here my smb.conf: # Samba config file created using SWAT # from 0.0.0.0 (0.0.0.0) # Date: 2003/01/11 16:17:19 # Global parameters [global] security = share guest account

How can $VARIABLES be used inside smbclient -c'xyz' command strings?
Hi, being a total newbie in shellscripting and similar stuff, I am suffering from a brain freeze around the following problem: * I need to print (or transfer otherwise) to a WinNT box; * the files are send from inside a shellscript; * the script gets the filename on the commandline when started; * so the only knows it works on "$1"; * the problem is, that the original filename needs to

Samba & LPRng: Printer Status in Windows
I know this question has been answered here a while back, but I have not been able to find the mailing with the posts on it. -----==========----- I have a redhat server that I am using as a file/print server for student use. I am using samba to help the users with Windows. The problem I have is that when using printing a user can submit a print job, and it prints fine, but cannot see the

Simple Samba
I have simple needs, as I am my only user. I am in transition between Linux and Windows. I need to get Samba running. I DO NOT need any security between machines (except to the internet.) I have certain hardware requirements that forces me to keep Windows a little longer, some day soon I will be able to afford to make the last changes. In the mean time I need to move and store my "My
